Job summary

SIGMA Group in Evansville is seeking a Controls Engineer to apply control theory to develop systems achieving desired performance. You will design electrical control panels, draft schematics, and maintain comprehensive drawing packages while troubleshooting hardware and processes.

The role requires experience with PLCs (Allen-Bradley/Siemens), AutoCAD, and strong communication. Travel up to 20% may be required as projects demand. ESOP culture and supportive team environment offered.

Qualifications

  • Associate or Bachelor's degree in engineering or related field is preferred.
  • 4–5 years of relevant experience in controls engineering.
  • Experience with integrating manufacturing and processing lines is preferred.
  • Experience with food and beverage industry is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze plant processes and implement improvements.
  • Design and draft electrical control panels and schematics.
  • Maintain electrical and pneumatic drawing packages, including I/O schematics.
  • Troubleshoot hardware and processes and plan preventive maintenance.
  • Collaborate with others to identify problems and implement solutions.

Job description

Come join the SIGMA Team! We are currently looking for a Controls Engineer. This position will apply control theory to develop systems that achieve the desired performance within the organization. The controls engineer must possess strong working knowledge of mechanical and electrical systems with technical proficiency in software applications. This role could require the ability to travel upon request up to 20%.

Duties/Responsibilities:
  • Analyze plant processes, design and implement improvements
  • Design, layout, and draft complete industrial electrical control panels and schematic packages
  • Develop, format, and maintain comprehensive electrical and pneumatic drawing packages—including panel layouts, single-line diagrams, and I/O schematics.
  • Troubleshooting issues with hardware and processes
  • Plan and execute preventative maintenance for electrical and control systems
  • Work with others to detect problems and implement solutions
  • Maintain quality and safety standards are upheld
  • Stay abreast of relevant industry developments, emerging automation technologies, and platform updates
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Skilled at troubleshooting machinery, especially via PLC code and various types of diagrams
  • In-Depth knowledge and hands-on of Allen-Bradley and/or Siemens PLC's is strongly preferred
  • Proficient in AutoCAD for creating, modifying, and updating electrical drawing packages, panel layouts, and plant CAD designs.
  • Ability to read, interpret, and draft complex electrical, pneumatic, and mechanical diagrams/schematics
  • Must be familiar with mechanical drawing/diagrams
  • 4-5 years of experience in a related field
  • Strong reasoning, analytical, and cause-and-effect problem-solving skills to diagnose hardware and software issues efficiently.
  • Effective and concise communication skills, verbal and written
  • Motivated, self-starter, with a willingness to lead and grow
Education and Experience:
  • Associate or Bachelor's degree in engineering, electrical, manufacturing, or mechanical engineering preferred
  • Experience with integrating manufacturing and processing lines
  • Experience in food and beverage industry
  • Experience with end-of-line automation including product packaging through palletizing
  • Experience in PLC, motion controls, and vision inspection control platforms
  • Experience with plant CAD design layout and/or 3D modeling
