Job summary

SSI SCHAEFER is seeking a qualified engineer to define software interfaces and control system software for complex automation projects in Charlotte, NC. The role involves PLC/SCADA/HMI programming, safety verification, and close collaboration with project and IT teams.

The ideal candidate holds a 4-year degree in Electrical or Computer Engineering and has hands-on experience with Allen-Bradley or Siemens S7 PLCs, IEC 61131-1 languages, and travel up to 50%. Spanish is a plus.

Qualifications

• Bachelors degree in Electrical or Computer Engineering or equivalent.
• Minimum of 2 years experience with Allen-Bradley or Siemens S7 PLCs in intralogistics.
• 2 years experience developing software using IEC 61131-1 languages.
• Minimum of 50% travel (national and/or international).
• Spanish-speaking considered a plus.

Responsibilities

• Define and document software interfaces for sub-systems.
• Define and monitor controls test levels for sub-systems.
• Implement and verify software safety requirements per engineering specs.
• Design, configuration, programming, and commissioning of complex control systems for automation projects (PLC, SCADA, HMI).
• Startup, pre-commissioning, commissioning and PLC software parametrization for equipment.
• Produce and review control system documentation (manuals, SOPs, technical reports).
• Collaborate with project and IT teams; participate in project meetings.
• Interact with customer service as needed.

Location: Hybrid (Charlotte, NC)/Remote

Essential Functions:

• Definition and documentation of the software interfaces of all sub-systems.
• Definition and monitoring of the controls test levels of all sub-systems.
• Implementation and verification of the software safety requirements incompliance with the specifications from the technical engineering.
• Design, configuration, programming, and commissioning of complex control systems for automation projects, including PLC, SCADA,and HMI.
• Startup, pre-commissioning, commissioning and PLC software parametrization for Schaefer equipment.
• Plausibility check of the performance measurement protocol and handover protocol for installation.
• Produce and review control system documentation, including manuals, standard operating procedures, technical reports and special equipment functionalities.
• Work in contact with project team and IT team, participating in meetings related to the project.
• Work in contact to customer service when needed.
• Minimum of 50% travel within the US but may also include some international travel.

Qualification Requirements:

• 4-year degree in Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering or equivalent combination of education and experience in similar work.
• Minimum of 2-years experience with Allen-Bradley or Siemens S7 PLC's in the intralogistics industry.
• 2-year experience developing software using software languages specified by IEC 61131-1 standards.
• Minimum of 50% national and/or international travel.
• Spanish-speaking considered a plus.
