Job summary

SSI SCHAEFER is seeking an experienced Automation/Control Engineer for our Charlotte area operations. You will define interfaces for sub-systems, implement PLC/SCADA/HMI solutions, and verify safety requirements across complex automation projects.

Expect startup, commissioning, and substantial travel within the US. Ideal candidates hold a 4-year engineering degree and have hands-on PLC experience (Allen-Bradley or Siemens S7) with IEC 61131-1 languages, plus strong documentation skills and

Qualifications

• 4-year degree in Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering or equivalent.
• 2+ years with Allen-Bradley or Siemens S7 PLCs in intralogistics.
• 2+ years developing software using IEC 61131-1 languages.
• 50% national and/or international travel.
• Spanish-speaking considered a plus.

Responsibilities

• Define and document software interfaces for all sub-systems.
• Define and monitor controls test levels for all sub-systems.
• Implement and verify software safety requirements per engineering specs.
• Design, configuration, programming, and commissioning of complex control systems (PLC, SCADA, HMI).
• Startup, pre-commissioning, commissioning and PLC parametrization for Schaefer equipment.
• Create and review control system documentation (manuals, SOPs, reports).
• Collaborate with project and IT teams; participate in project meetings.
• Coordinate with customer service as needed.
• Travel up to 50% within the US; some international travel possible.

Location: Hybrid (Charlotte, NC)/Remote

Essential Functions:

• Definition and documentation of the software interfaces of all sub-systems.


• Definition and monitoring of the controls test levels of all sub-systems.


• Implementation and verification of the software safety requirements incompliance with the specifications from the technical engineering.


• Design, configuration, programming, and commissioning of complex control systems for automation projects, including PLC, SCADA,and HMI.


• Startup, pre-commissioning, commissioning and PLC software parametrization for Schaefer equipment.


• Plausibility check of the performance measurement protocol and handover protocol for installation.


• Produce and review control system documentation, including manuals, standard operating procedures, technical reports and special equipment functionalities.


• Work in contact with project team and IT team, participating in meetings related to the project.


• Work in contact to customer service when needed.


• Minimum of 50% travel within the US but may also include some international travel.

Qualification Requirements:

• 4-year degree in Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering or equivalent combination of education and experience in similar work.


• Minimum of 2-years experience with Allen-Bradley or Siemens S7 PLC’s in the intralogistics industry.


• 2-year experience developing software using software languages specified by IEC 61131-1 standards.


• Minimum of 50% national and/or international travel.


• Spanish-speaking considered a plus.
