Job summary

ASI, a Division of Livingston & Haven, seeks a Controls Engineer to design, program, commission, and support custom automated systems. This hands‑on role covers hardware and software from concept through installation and post‑delivery support.

The ideal candidate has 2–4 years of controls programming experience, plus PLC, HMI, VFD, robot, servo, or vision familiarity. Travel to customer facilities is required.

Qualifications

• Associates degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, Industrial Automation, or related field.

• Experience reading electrical print sets.

• Interface directly with customers to address and solve their needs and provide high‑quality services.
• Provide oversight and technical guidance on control panel and system wiring and fabrication.
• Design, develop, and troubleshoot automated electromechanical control systems.
• Program and troubleshoot PLC, HMI, VFD, servo, robot, vision, and other automated control systems both in house and in the field.
• Support system runoffs and equipment installations, ensuring functionality aligns with contractual requirements.
• Conduct quality control inspections and maintain safety standards per codes.
• Hands on integration, modification, and repair of robotic, mechanical, and controls equipment to meet customer specifications.

Job description

As a Controls Engineer at ASI, a Division of Livingston & Haven, you will play a pivotal role in the design, programming, commissioning, integration, and support of custom automated and robotic systems. This role involves hands‑on work with both hardware and software, supporting projects form initial concept through installation and post deliver support. Prospective candidates must demonstrate strong technical aptitude, experience with programming and on control system engineering, as well as a commitment to maintaining L&H’s reputation for delivering innovative and high-quality automated solutions. The ideal candidate will be self‑motivated and capable of working within a team as well as independently; able to manage multiple assignments simultaneously.

• Primary Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

• Collaboration

• Report directly to the Controls Manager regarding most daily tasks.

• Take indirect supervision and tasks from others on the ASI management and engineering teams as needed for project specific work.

• Coordinate with sales, project, controls, and mechanical teams to design and implement automation projects.

• Interface directly with customers to address and solve their needs and provide high‑quality services.

• Provide oversight and technical guidance on control panel and system wiring and fabrication.

• Engineering and Integration

• Design, develop, and troubleshoot automated electromechanical control systems.

• Program and troubleshoot PLC, HMI, VFD, servo, robot, vision, and other automated control systems both in house and in the field.

• Support system runoffs and equipment installations, ensuring functionality aligns with contractual requirements.

• Conduct quality control inspects and maintain safety standards in alignment with company and national codes.

• Hands on integration, modification, and repair of robotic, mechanical, and controls equipment to meet customer specifications.

• Assist in maintaining a clean and organized work environment throughout the fabrication area as well as the entire ship. This includes general housekeeping duties such as trash removal, floor sweeping, and part/material organizing.

• Installation and Support

• Provide hands‑on support as needed for the building, commissioning, and installation of automated manufacturing equipment. This work will regularly require the use of electrical and other hand tools

• Troubleshoot, diagnose, modify, and repair electromechanical control system at ASI and our customer’s facilities.

• Keep accurate and up to date records on all aspects of work being completed, utilizing existing documentation and processes.

• Perform quality control inspections on electrical controls systems.

• Education

• Associates degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, Industrial Automation, or related field.

• Preferred: Bachelors degree

• Experience

• Minimum 2 to 4 years of controls programming experience or similar industrial controls experience. This can include developing, troubleshooting, and editing existing programming and ladder logic.

• Experience with PLC, HMI, VFD, robot, servo, or other controls programming.

• Experience reading and understanding electrical print sets.

• Experience in designing and developing electrical prints is preferred.

• Experience in hands‑on integration, modification, and repair of controls systems

• Strong written and verbal communication skills

• Experience with Allen Bradley, Omron, Siemens, GE, and/or other PLC platforms

• Experience with HMI, VFD, servo, robot, and/or vision programming is preferred.

• Self‑motivated and organized

• Ability to bend and lift 50 plus pounds.

• Must be able to travel to work at customer facilities as necessary.

• Able to pass a background check as well as pre‑employment and random drug screenings.

• Able to multitask and work with minimal supervision.

• Possess and maintain a clean driving record and valid US driver’s license.

• Strong communication and computer skills.
