Job summary

BlueScope North America is seeking a Maintenance Engineer to support engineering drawings, procedures, equipment reliability, and safety initiatives at our facility in California. The role involves coordinating with engineering and planning teams, leading root-cause analyses, and driving standardization of HMIs/PLCs while managing spare parts and maintenance projects.

Responsibilities

• Ensures engineering drawings, maintenance procedures and technical information are kept up to date.
• Confers with the engineering department and recommends design or material changes
• Develops and/or updates maintenance SOPs, strategies and standards
• Identifies safety hazards for maintenance and production staff and develops actions
• Identify and implement process equipment improvements using reliability-based maintenance
• Provide direction to maintenance associates and contract labor
• Work with planners/scheduler to develop detailed shutdown work plans
• Optimize spares holding levels, develop efficient supply contracts and minimize stock costs
• Develop & organize training programs for maintenance associates
• Carries out root cause analysis on equipment failures and takes actions to prevent recurrence
• Promotes rational problem solving and decision making
• Develops capital requests, cost justifications and project management
• Implement standardization of HMIs and PLCs, including training and specs
• Establish repair priorities through communications with operating departments
• Determine whether to buy new or repair
• Communicate with vendors for timely repairs
• Create Work orders and MSOs as needed
• Determine most cost-effective repair method
• Documentation of activities in work orders
• Communicate with Engineers about design changes due to repairs
• Keep Planners informed on equipment repair status
• Review the addition of Spare and Bulk parts
• Lead Maintenance Excellence Projects to improve efficiency
• Research purchasing department spare part procurement problems
• Review PMs for best efficiency per RCM methods
• Handle repairable spare storeroom items
• Inspect storeroom fabricated parts
• Assist Engineers with Maintenance and Engineering improvements
• Promote common spare parts
• Assist in other functions as directed
