Job summary

United Launch Alliance is seeking a Controls & Automation Engineer 3 to join the Engineering and Infrastructure team at Cape Canaveral. You will design, operate, and maintain ECS systems and associated control hardware, including DCS, PLCs, and HMIs, to support launch vehicle operations.

Requires a STEM bachelor’s degree and 4+ years of related experience in industrial automation, with knowledge of ladder logic, structured text, and Modbus/IP-TCP communications.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in a STEM field from an accredited college or university.
• Experience with DCS/PLC/HMI automation and control systems.
• Experience with digital and analog input/output control.
• Experience with PID control and tuning.
• Experience with configuration management as it relates to industrial control systems.
• Experience with graphical user interface development and programming.
• Demonstrated experience with Programmable Logic Controllers, programming in Ladder Logic, Structured text, and Function Block.
• DCS/PLC Communication experience - Modbus, IP/TCP
• Windows operating system administration and security basics.

Responsibilities

• Design, operate, and maintain ground environmental control systems (ECS) for launch vehicle operations.
• Maintain, operate, troubleshoot, and design DCS, PLCs, and HMIs for ECS/HVAC.
• Create SOWs, RFPs, PFDs, P&IDs, and engineering design packages for new controls and automation projects.
• Direct, oversee, and manage the implementation of new projects, including contractor coordination and scheduling.
• Support day-to-day operations, mission-specific testing, launch processing milestones, and launch operations.
• Maintain SCADA networks, configuration management of PLC/HMI software, and instrumentation.
• Interface with customers, suppliers, and application users.
• Collaborate with hardware engineers on planning, design and development of automated control systems.
