Job summary

TETRA Technologies, Inc. is seeking a skilled electrical technician to join our field maintenance team in the United States.

You will troubleshoot, program, and maintain PLC-based control systems and HMIs in a live plant environment, reading schematics and ensuring equipment reliability. The ideal candidate has 3–5 years of hands-on experience, an HS diploma or GED (Associate or technical cert preferred), and is capable of working rotating shifts, with willingness to pass pre-employment

Qualifications

  • 3–5 years of hands-on experience programming, troubleshooting, and maintaining PLC-based control systems, HMI platforms, and industrial electrical systems in live environments.
  • Experience supporting manufacturing, chemical processing, oil & gas, industrial processing, or similar process industries preferred.
  • Experience commissioning control systems, performing loop checks, calibration, and startup support is preferred.
  • Strong experience troubleshooting motors, MCCs, VFDs, drives, field instrumentation, electrical panels, and industrial process equipment.
  • Must pass pre-employment background, medical, alcohol, and drug screening; valid Driver’s License.
  • Able to work rotating shifts including nights, weekends, holidays, and overtime if applicable.

Responsibilities

  • Troubleshoot PLC-based control systems and HMIs in live plant environments.
  • Read electrical schematics, loop diagrams, P&IDs, blueprints, control narratives, and technical drawings to diagnose issues.
  • Perform preventative and corrective maintenance on electrical systems, instrumentation, PLC panels, HMIs, motors, drives, MCCs, and field wiring.
  • Collaborate with Engineering and Operations to support equipment repairs, control strategy improvements, commissioning activities, and continuous reliability initiatives.
  • Complete maintenance records, programming documentation, calibration records, and other required documentation accurately.
  • Work safely and independently in an industrial plant environment while adhering to safety policies and procedures.

  • Go online with live PLC and HMI systems to troubleshoot, interpret existing control logic, modify programs, document changes, and restore equipment functionality.
  • Troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair PLC-based control systems, industrial networks, instrumentation, drives, electrical equipment, and automation components to maintain safe and reliable plant operations.
  • Execute control system modifications, commissioning activities, loop checks, calibration support, startup assistance, and system upgrades while maintaining proper documentation.
  • Read and interpret electrical schematics, loop diagrams, P&IDs, blueprints, control narratives, and technical drawings to troubleshoot equipment and support field execution.
  • Perform preventative and corrective maintenance on electrical systems, instrumentation, PLC panels, HMIs, motors, drives, MCCs, VFDs, field wiring, pumps, valves, burners, blowers, and other plant equipment.
  • Utilize electrical testing equipment and diagnostic tools to identify equipment failures, determine root causes, and implement corrective actions that improve system reliability and minimize downtime.
  • Partner with Engineering and Operations to support equipment repairs, control strategy improvements, commissioning activities, and continuous reliability initiatives.
  • Complete maintenance records, programming documentation, calibration records, inspection reports, and other required documentation accurately and on time.
  • Work safely and independently in an industrial plant environment while demonstrating strong troubleshooting skills, sound technical judgment, and ownership of assigned work.
  • Ensure all work complies with OSHA regulations, Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures, National Electrical Code (NEC) standards, company safety policies, and site-specific electrical requirements.
  • Maintain a safe, clean, and organized work environment while supporting overall plant reliability, equipment uptime, and continuous improvement initiatives.

Requirements:

  • EDUCATION: High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED) required; Associate degree or Technical Certificate in Electrical Technology, Instrumentation, Automation, Industrial Maintenance, Mechatronics, or a related field preferred.
  • EXPERIENCE:
    • 3–5 years of hands-on experience programming, troubleshooting, and maintaining PLC-based control systems, HMI platforms, industrial electrical systems, instrumentation, and automation equipment in a live industrial environment
    • Experience supporting manufacturing, chemical processing, oil & gas, industrial processing, power generation, utilities, or similar process industries preferred
    • Experience commissioning control systems, performing loop checks, calibration, and startup support is preferred.
    • Strong experience troubleshooting motors, MCCs, VFDs, drives, field instrumentation, electrical panels, and industrial process equipment.
  • OTHER:
    • Submit to and satisfactorily complete pre-employment background, medical, alcohol, and drug screening.
    • Must possess a valid Driver’s License.
    • Able and willing to work a rotating shift schedule that includes nights, weekends, holidays, and occasional overtime, if applicable.
    • Able to work independently while collaborating effectively with Engineering, Operations, and Maintenance teams.
    • Strong understanding of PLC/HMI programming platforms, industrial electrical systems, instrumentation, electrical schematics, P&IDs, NEC standards, and Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures.
