Job summary

Mercor invites an experienced corporate accountant to partner with a leading AI lab to train systems on real-world accounting. You will translate day-to-day controllership work into structured data, focusing on financial reporting, month-end close, and core accounting operations for AI training.

You will design realistic scenarios, review AI-generated outputs for GAAP accuracy, and provide clear feedback to improve AI reasoning in close and reporting tasks.

Qualifications

• CPA or 3–5+ years of corporate/in-house or firm accounting experience.
• Hands-on ownership of the general ledger and the period-end close.
• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
• Proficient with common accounting tools (QuickBooks, NetSuite, SAP, Oracle, Excel).

Responsibilities

• Design realistic controllership scenarios: financial statement prep, journal entries, reconciliations, month-end close.
• Review AI outputs for GAAP compliance and accuracy.
• Provide written feedback to improve AI performance on close and reporting.
• Collaborate asynchronously with the research team.

You'll translate the day-to-day of running the books — financial reporting, the month-end close, and core accounting operations — into structured, high-quality training data that teaches AI to reason about real accounting work.

Focus Areas

Financial accounting & reporting · bookkeeping / client accounting services (CAS) · accounting operations (AP / AR / payroll).

Key Responsibilities

• Design realistic scenarios from your controllership work — financial statement preparation, journal entries, account & bank reconciliations, month-end / period-end close, fixed-asset & depreciation schedules, accruals and prepaids
• Review and compare AI-generated accounting outputs for accuracy, GAAP compliance, and sound professional judgment
• Provide clear written feedback that improves how AI performs close and reporting tasks
• Collaborate asynchronously with the research team

Ideal Qualifications

• CPA, or 3–5+ years of corporate/in-house or firm accounting experience (no niche certification required)
• Hands‑on ownership of the general ledger and the period‑end close
• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
• Comfortable with common accounting tools (QuickBooks, NetSuite, SAP, Oracle, Excel)
• Strong written communication and attention to detail
