Job summary
One Stop Home Repair is seeking a Controller | Strategic Financial Leader in Orono, Maine, to partner with the President and leadership. This role goes beyond traditional accounting, transforming financial information into strategic decisions that improve profitability and operational performance across the business.
You’ll work directly with leadership to influence profitability, cash flow, and long‑term growth, building scalable processes while remaining hands‑on in daily financial operations.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
- Five or more years of progressive financial leadership experience
- Experience as a Controller, Assistant Controller, Director of Finance, or similar leadership role
- Experience in construction, home services, contracting, manufacturing, or another project-based business
- CPA certification is welcomed but not required
- Ability to translate financial information into practical business decisions
Responsibilities

Your work won’t end with financial statements. You’ll help leadership understand what the numbers mean, identify opportunities for improvement, challenge assumptions, and guide decisions that strengthen the business.
Your ability to analyze financial performance, improve systems, and support operational excellence will directly impact profitability, cash flow, growth, and the long‑term success of our employee‑owned company.
This is a hands‑on leadership position where you’ll both lead and execute. You’ll be expected to build strong financial processes while remaining actively involved in the day‑to‑day financial operations of the business.
As our Strategic Financial Leader, you’ll partner with leadership to:
- Improve profitability through financial analysis and business insight
- Develop meaningful KPIs and performance dashboards
- Strengthen budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow management
- Improve job costing and gross margin reporting
- Support strategic planning and long‑range business decisions
- Identify operational efficiencies and continuous improvement opportunities
- Develop scalable accounting systems and internal controls
- Provide decision support for pricing, staffing, investments, and growth initiatives
- Lead the accounting function while serving as a trusted business partner across the organization
Within your first year, you’ll have helped us achieve measurable improvements such as:
- Faster and more accurate month‑end financial close
- Improved visibility into job costing and gross margins
- Better KPI reporting for leadership and operations
- More reliable cash flow forecasting
- Stronger internal controls and accounting processes
- Actionable financial insights that improve business performance
- Trusted partnership with leadership in making strategic decisions
We’re searching for a business leader who happens to be an outstanding accountant.
The ideal candidate will have:
- A bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
- Five or more years of progressive financial leadership experience
- Experience as a Controller, Assistant Controller, Director of Finance, or similar leadership role
- Experience in construction, home services, contracting, manufacturing, or another project‑based business
- Strong business judgment and analytical thinking
- Excellent communication and relationship‑building skills
- A collaborative leadership style with a passion for continuous improvement
- The ability to translate financial information into practical business decisions
CPA certification is welcomed but not required.
