FYI - For Your Information, Inc. is seeking an experienced part-time Controller to guide leadership on financials remotely. You will coordinate with an external accounting/tax firm and ensure accurate monthly closes, grants of taxes, and clear reporting for executives.

You will strengthen internal controls, support audits, and deliver actionable insights on margins, cash flow, and forecasting while meeting FAR and DCAA requirements in a fast-growing, remote environment.

Qualifications

• 7+ years progressive accounting experience with leadership roles.
• Experience in federal government contracting accounting (DCAA).
• Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP and month/year-end closes.
• Ability to explain financial information to non-financial leaders.
• Remote, part-time role requiring Eastern Time availability.
• Authorized to work in the United States.

Responsibilities

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced, part-time Controller to serve as a trusted financial advisor to our leadership team, including our President and our CEO. This is a fully remote, advisory role. You will act as the primary liaison between the company and our outside accounting and tax compliance firm. You will make sure our financial records, monthly closes and tax filings are accurate, timely and clearly understood by leadership.

Key Responsibilities

Liaison to the outside accounting and tax firm

• Serve as the company's main point of contact with our external accounting and tax compliance firm.
• Coordinate monthly, quarterly and year-end close timelines, deliverables and document requests.
• Review financial statements, reconciliations and journal entries prepared by the firm for accuracy and completeness.
• Oversee tax compliance deadlines (federal, state and local filings, estimated payments, sales/use and payroll tax as applicable) and make sure the firm has what it needs.
• Flag issues, ask the right questions and hold the firm accountable for quality and timeliness.

Financial oversight and advisory

• Advise leadership on financial performance, cash flow, budgeting and forecasting, explaining results in plain language and recommending actions.
• Assess and strengthen internal controls, accounting policies and financial processes, including compliance with federal contract requirements (FAR, DCAA).
• Support audits, lender or investor requests, and other external financial reporting as needed.
• Identify risks and opportunities related to margins, costs, pricing and working capital.

Reporting and dashboards

• Define the key financial and operational metrics (KPIs) leadership should track.
• Build and maintain financial dashboards and management reports that give leadership a real-time view of the business.
• Assess how our financial data is held and accessed today and recommend improvements to systems, reporting tools and data flows, including whether an in-house accounting system is needed.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance or a related field.
• 7+ years of progressive accounting experience, including at least 3 years in a Controller, Assistant Controller or senior accounting leadership role.
• Federal government contracting accounting experience, such as DCAA compliance, indirect rate structures, incurred cost submissions and Deltek Costpoint.
• Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP, month-end and year-end close, and financial statement preparation.
• Working knowledge of business tax compliance and proven experience reviewing the work of outside CPA or tax firms and holding them accountable.
• Advanced Excel skills and experience with cloud accounting software (such as QuickBooks Online, NetSuite, Sage Intacct or Xero).
• Excellent communication skills, with the ability to explain financial information to non-financial leaders.
• Self-directed and comfortable working independently in a remote, part-time setting, available during Eastern Time business hours.
• Located in the U.S. and authorized to work in the U.S.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience building financial dashboards in tools such as Power BI, Tableau, Looker Studio, Fathom, Jirav or advanced Excel/Google Sheets. This is a strong plus.
• CPA license (active or inactive).
• Prior experience as a fractional, part-time or outsourced Controller supporting small to mid-sized businesses.
• Experience using AI or automation tools to streamline reporting.
