Job summary

Your Part-Time Controller, LLC is seeking a dedicated Controller for nonprofit organizations to guide client accounting across multiple engagements. This role requires strong nonprofit expertise, leadership, and the ability to work with boards and finance committees in a hybrid environment.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance.
  • 7+ years of progressive accounting experience; nonprofit experience preferred.
  • Passion for nonprofit missions.
  • Expertise in nonprofit accounting, reporting, compliance.
  • Trusted advisor who identifies issues and proposes solutions.
  • Strong leadership and client relationship skills for guiding conversations.
  • Ability to manage multiple clients in a hybrid environment.
  • Strong Excel skills.
  • Experience with QuickBooks and electronic bill payment platforms.
  • Public accounting or consulting experience preferred.
  • CPA is a plus.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish a plus.
  • Ability to work during normal business hours.

Responsibilities

  • Transform nonprofit client financial departments to support their mission.
  • Prepare financial reporting for management and Board decisions.
  • Recommend and implement improvements to accounting, operations, controls, and policies.
  • Handle transactional activities including AP/AR, payroll, month-end close, and workpapers.
  • Perform analysis, budgeting, forecasting, and funder reporting.

We are looking for a dedicated, personable, hands-on Controller seeking a dynamic opportunity to guide our clients and provide transformative accounting services. Successful candidates must be comfortable working with multiple clients both virtually and on-site. The Controller will interact with clients, their staff, Board of Directors, and Finance Committees on a regular basis.

Responsibilities
  • Transforming nonprofit client financial departments to help them meet their mission!
  • Financial reporting for management and Board decision making and presentations
  • Recommending and implementing improvements to accounting, operations, internal controls, and compliance policies and procedures, supporting client strategy and best practices
  • Transactional activities including accounts payable, accounts receivable (revenue recognition and billing), and payroll, general accounting, reconciliations, month-end close, and maintaining workpapers
  • Analysis and data visualization, budgeting and forecasting
  • Grant management, allocations, and funder reporting
  • Prepare for and manage annual audit
  • Client and staff training opportunities
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree required, preferably in Accounting or Finance
  • 7+ years of progressive accounting experience required; Recent nonprofit accounting experience, strongly preferred
  • Passion for supporting nonprofit organizations and their missions
  • Demonstrated expertise in nonprofit accounting, financial reporting, and compliance
  • Proven ability to serve as a trusted advisor, proactively identify issues, and recommend solutions
  • Strong leadership, communication, and client relationship management skills, with the confidence to lead conversations and influence outcomes
  • Ability to manage multiple clients, work independently, and thrive in a hybrid environment
  • Demonstrated strong Microsoft Excel skills
  • Experience with multiple general ledger systems, particularly QuickBooks, and electronic bill payment platforms
  • Public accounting experience, and/or consulting experience preferred
  • CPA certification is a plus
  • Bilingual-English/Spanish a plus

Starting annual base salary is $100,000 to $135,000 based on a 35-hour work week for this non-exempt position. Total compensation may increase with overtime pay and eligibility for various bonuses. A professional development reimbursement and technology stipend are also provided on an annual basis. Please note that the base salary offered may vary depending on relevant factors as determined by Your Part-Time Controller, LLC, which may include, but is not limited to, education, skill, experience, licensure and certifications, internal salary ranges, geographical location, and other business needs.
