Job summary

Your Part-Time Controller, LLC (YPTC) is a national leader in outsourced nonprofit accounting. We seek a skilled Controller to oversee multi-client engagements, drive accurate financial reporting, and strengthen controls in a hybrid Chicago-area role.

A strong Excel skillset, QuickBooks experience, and remote-work comfort are essential. The position offers a hybrid schedule, competitive compensation, generous benefits, and pathways for professional growth within a mission-driven environment.

Qualifications

• Passionate about working in or supporting non-profit organizations
• Bachelor’s Degree required, preferably in Accounting or Finance
• 5-7 plus years accounting experience
• Experience working in a remote environment preferred
• Ability to manage and lead multiple clients, work independently, and be responsive on a timely basis
• Demonstrated strong Microsoft Excel skills
• Experience with multiple GL packages, especially QuickBooks, and electronic bill pay systems
• Non-profit accounting, public accounting experience, and/or consulting experience is a plus but not required
• CPA certification is a plus
• Bilingual-English/Spanish a plus
• Our part-time employees are expected to work during normal business hours to best serve our clients

• Transforming nonprofit client financial departments to help them meet their mission
• Financial reporting for management and Board decision making and presentations
• Recommending and implementing improvements to accounting, operations, internal controls, and compliance policies and procedures, supporting client strategy and best practices
• Transactional activities including accounts payable, accounts receivable (revenue recognition and billing), and payroll, general accounting, reconciliations, month-end close, and maintaining workpapers
• Analysis and data visualization, budgeting and forecasting
• Grant management, allocations, and funder reporting
• Prepare for and manage annual audit

Successful candidates must be comfortable working with multiple clients both virtually and on-site. The Controller will interact with clients, their staff, Board of Directors, and Finance Committees on a regular basis.

• Starting annual base salary is $100,000 to $125,000 based on a 35-hour work week for this non-exempt position. Total compensation may increase with overtime pay and eligibility for various bonuses. A professional development reimbursement and technology stipend are also provided on an annual basis.
