Job Description

The company is hiring its first dedicated Controller to build and own the finance function across two operating entities. This is a build role, not a maintenance role. The company has strong revenue, loyal blue-chip customers, and a capable bookkeeper who currently closes the books for both entities. What it needs is the financial infrastructure, controls, and reporting that a company at this scale requires. You will establish that foundation: cleaning up the general ledger, rebuilding the standard costing model, and standing up a disciplined month-end close. Once the accounting house is in order, you will layer on budgeting, forecasting, and the operational reporting the leadership team needs to make capital allocation and growth decisions. You will work directly alongside the CEO and COO, operate in an open-office, factory-adjacent environment, and spend real time on the manufacturing floor. This is an opportunity to put your fingerprints on an entire finance function at a company that is growing and investing in doing things the right way.

Key Responsibilities

Reconstruct and align the Chart of Accounts across both entities. Own the general ledger, enforce a disciplined month-end close, and bring reporting up to audit-ready standards. Design and implement internal controls for inventory custody, cash disbursements, AP, and payroll. Establish SOPs that professionalize financial operations across both facilities. Tear down and rebuild the standard costing model. Partner with the Plant Manager(s) to audit and correct Bills of Materials and labor routings so that product costs reflect reality. Partner with the Inventory and Planning team to implement cycle counting and scrap tracking programs. Own inventory valuation and ensure the numbers in the ERP match the materials on the floor. Deliver true gross margin analysis by SKU and customer, stripping away allocations to reveal actual unit economics. Provide the leadership team with clear, actionable visibility into commercial profitability. Build dynamic financial models in Excel (3-statement models, 13-week rolling cash flow forecasts) and lead the company's first formal annual budgeting process, including monthly budget-vs-actuals reporting. Develop and track a unified set of operational and financial KPIs (scrap rates, inventory turns, gross margins, customer profitability) to support strategic decision-making across both entities. Manage the relationship with the outside CPA/tax firm and coordinate on tax payments, compliance, and any future external audit preparation. Oversee the existing bookkeeper and office staff who handle day-to-day transaction processing, close activities, and payroll across both entities. Coach the team through process changes with patience and clear communication.

JOB INFORMATION

Starting Salary: Starting salary +/- $120K - $140 USD per year, based on experience.

Bonus: Up to 10% of yearly salary, based on performance.

Workweek: M-F 7-4. Flexibility is required. This is a salaried senior position. The Controller will work directly with senior leadership and support the financial operations of both operating entities and facilities.

Qualifications

Criminal Background Check: Yes, applicants must be able to pass a Mexican and/or US CBC before departure from place of employment, arranged by the recruitment company.

Drug Test? No pre- employment DT required.

English Level Requirement: Bilingual in English and Spanish (C1).

Required Qualifications

8+ years of progressive accounting experience, with a strong preference for candidates who combine public accounting (audit) with hands-on operational or plant controller roles in manufacturing Expert-level knowledge of standard costing, BOMs, variance analysis, and inventory accounting Direct experience working on or near a manufacturing floor, partnering with production, warehouse, and operations teams (not exclusively corporate HQ experience) Proven track record of financial cleanup or transformation: you have fixed a messy GL, rebuilt a close process, corrected an ERP data integrity issue, or similar Advanced Excel and financial modeling skills (building models from scratch, not relying on templates) Deep experience with mid-market ERPs (Sage, NetSuite, Epicor, IQMS, or similar) and a working understanding of how purchasing, receiving, and production modules feed the GL Change management ability: comfortable coaching long-tenured staff through new processes in a respectful, hands-on way CPA or CMA preferred

Nice-to-Have

Experience leading or heavily participating in an ERP implementation or system consolidation (the company currently runs Sage 100 and IQMS across its two entities, with a consolidation or upgrade likely within 3 years) Exposure to M&A integration accounting or financial due diligence (active acquisition pipeline, though not the primary focus of this role) Multi-entity or multi-site manufacturing experience Experience implementing cycle count programs or inventory control systems
