Job summary

City Wide Facility Solutions in Richmond, VA is seeking an experienced Controller to oversee the accounting function for the Richmond operation. This role combines hands-on management of a small accounting team with deep involvement in financial processes.

The ideal candidate has 1–2+ years of Controller experience, strong GAAP knowledge, and the ability to mentor the Bookkeeper. Long-term growth toward a CFO-level role is encouraged.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
• 1–2+ years of Controller experience with ownership of the accounting function.
• Strong understanding of GAAP, financial statements, reconciliations, P&L, balance sheet, and cash flow.
• Ability to identify, investigate, and resolve discrepancies independently.
• Hands-on with daily accounting tasks while managing at a higher strategic level.
• Experience mentoring accounting staff.
• CPA, CPA candidate, or pursuing CPA designation preferred.
• Experience in service-based, construction, franchise, or multi-revenue environments is a plus.
• Experience in smaller or mid-size business environments is desirable.
• Long-term career focus with growth toward CFO-level responsibilities.

Responsibilities

• Oversee day-to-day accounting while remaining hands-on with key activities.
• Manage and develop the Bookkeeper with oversight and checks and balances.
• Oversee contract billing, accounts payable, accounts receivable, reconciliations, and general ledger activity.
• Review financial transactions and investigate discrepancies.
• Lead the monthly close process and ensure timely, accurate financials.
• Review the P&L, balance sheet, and cash flow monthly for trends and actions.
• Prepare and/or review monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and management reports.
• Handle complex accounting duties including year-end adjustments and technical matters.
• Understand and manage unique accounting structure for different payables.
• Provide financial insight to office leadership and support budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis.
• Maintain internal controls and coordinate with City Wide Corporate as needed.
• Support audits and develop schedules; identify process improvements.
• Grow the function to support multiple locations in the future.
