Position Overview

We are seeking a hands‑on Controller to serve as the primary internal accounting lead for the company.

This role is responsible for overseeing financial operations, cash management, and compliance, while also handling day‑to‑day accounting activities in a small company environment. The Controller will work closely with leadership to provide financial insight and support informed decision‑making.

You will also partner with an outsourced bookkeeping team responsible for month‑end close and financial statement preparation, ensuring accuracy, resolving issues, and maintaining strong financial controls.

This role is ideal for someone who is comfortable balancing financial oversight with hands‑on execution and wants to have a direct impact on company performance.

Key Responsibilities

• Review monthly financial statements for accuracy and alignment prior to leadership review
• Monitor company cash flow, banking activity, and financial obligations
• Maintain oversight of job costing and construction financial processes
• Support budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning
• Provide financial insights to support operational and strategic decision‑making

Accounting Operations

• Manage day‑to‑day accounting activities, including accounts payable, reconciliations, and financial tracking
• Oversee accounts receivable, including billing coordination, collections, and aging
• Ensure accurate and timely processing of vendor payments and customer receipts

Construction Accounting

• Maintain and oversee job costing processes
• Ensure proper handling of lien waivers, Notice to Owners (NTOs), and subcontractor compliance documentation
• Partner with project managers to improve financial visibility and job performance

Compliance & Administration

• Coordinate audits, insurance reporting, and regulatory filings
• Oversee sales tax reporting and compliance requirements
• Maintain company licenses, registrations, and financial documentation
• Support year‑end processes with external CPA

Process Improvement & Coordination

• Work closely with outsourced bookkeeping partner to support month‑end close
• Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes and internal controls
• Serve as the primary accounting liaison between leadership, project teams, vendors, and external partners

What We’re Looking For

• 5+ years of accounting experience (construction industry strongly preferred)
• Strong understanding of job costing, cash flow management, and financial reporting
• Experience working in a small or mid‑sized company environment
• Comfortable being hands‑on with day‑to‑day accounting responsibilities
• Strong analytical, organizational, and problem‑solving skills
• Proficiency in Excel and accounting software
• Ability to work independently while collaborating with a team
