Job summary

Heber Light & Power is seeking an experienced Controller to lead accounting and financial operations, ensuring robust internal controls, accurate reporting, budgeting and auditing for the utility.

Reporting to the CFO, the Controller will oversee GL, AP, AR, financial statements, procurement oversight, and collaborate with management, auditors, vendors, and staff to strengthen financial practices and policy compliance.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, business, or a related field.
• Progressive experience in accounting and financial management, preferably in a governmental, utility, or similar environment.
• Strong knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles and governmental accounting standards.
• Experience with financial reporting, reconciliations, internal controls, and audit processes.
• Strong analytical, organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.

Responsibilities

• Direct and coordinate day-to-day accounting activities, including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, reconciliations, and financial reporting.
• Prepare and review accurate and timely financial statements, reports, and analyses for management and the Board of Directors.
• Maintain and strengthen accounting procedures and internal controls to safeguard Company assets and ensure the accuracy and integrity of financial information.
• Coordinate audit activities and provide information and support to external auditors.
• Assist with annual budgeting, financial analysis, cost accounting, and other financial planning activities.
• Oversee Company purchasing and procurement activities, including purchase requests, quotes, bids, RFPs, vendor selection, purchase orders, contracts, and procurement records.
• Ensure accounting and purchasing activities comply with Company policies, approved budgets, authorization levels, and applicable requirements.
• Work collaboratively with department managers and employees to resolve accounting, purchasing, and financial issues.
• Support the development and improvement of financial, accounting, purchasing, and internal-control procedures.
