Turnout is an AI-driven advocacy platform that helps people access the government and healthcare benefits they're entitled to. We operate across multiple verticals, including Social Security benefits, healthcare advocacy, VA benefits, and education advocacy. We've built an AI-native platform, with Jake, our in-house agent, at the center of operations.
Turnout has raised about $60 million from leading venture investors, most recently a Series A at a $400 million valuation in May 2026. Steve Harvey has endorsed the company as Chief Advocate Officer to help Americans finally feel like it's their turn.

The Role
We're hiring a Controller to own Turnout's accounting operations end to end. You'll run the close, get revenue recognition right across a set of unusual fee models, keep expenses and payables clean, manage the audit, and serve as the keeper of our financial and legal records. You'll report to the Head of Finance and work closely with leadership, outside counsel, and our external auditors. This is a hands-on role at a fast-growing company. You'll build processes and systems, not just maintain them.
What You'll Do
Close & reporting
- Own the monthly, quarterly, and annual close. That covers journal entries, accruals, reconciliations, and intercompany activity across our affiliated entities.
- Prepare GAAP-compliant financial statements and management reporting packages for leadership, the board, and lenders.
- Continuously shorten the close timeline through automation and better processes. Revenue recognition
- Maintain revenue schedules, deferred revenue, and receivables, and reconcile billing and collections to the general ledger.
- Document revenue policies and judgments, such as variable consideration and constraint estimates, for audit support.
- Manage accounts payable, vendor onboarding, corporate cards, and employee expense reimbursement.
- Enforce spend policies and approval workflows, and track spend against budget by vertical and department.
- Coordinate payroll accounting, benefits reconciliations, and 1099 reporting. Audit, tax & compliance
- Serve as the day-to-day contact for external auditors. Prepare PBC lists, schedules, and documentation, and drive the audit to an on-time finish.
- Work with outside tax advisors on income, sales and use, and state filings, and on entity-level compliance.
- Design, document, and maintain internal controls.
Systems
- Own and administer the ERP and connected tools, including the general ledger, AP automation, expense management, and billing integrations.
- Lead system implementations, migrations, and integrations as we scale. Legal documents & records
- Maintain an organized, audit-ready repository of contracts, corporate records, board consents, cap table documents, insurance policies, and entity filings.
- Track key contract terms, renewals, and obligations, and coordinate with outside counsel on document management.
- Support debt facility compliance and lender reporting.
What We're Looking For
- 3-5 years of accounting experience, ideally including time in public accounting (Big 4 or national firm) and at a high-growth company.
- Deep knowledge of US GAAP, with hands-on experience applying ASC 606 to complex or variable revenue arrangements.
- Proven ownership of a full monthly close and of external audits.
- Strong ERP experience, plus modern AP and expense tools such as Ramp
- Meticulous organization and document management habits.
- Comfort building processes from scratch in a fast-moving, ambiguous environment.
- Clear communication with non-finance stakeholders.
Nice to Have
- CPA.
- Multi-entity consolidation experience.
- Experience in healthcare, fintech, insurance, or other regulated industries.
- Experience implementing or migrating an ERP.
- Experience with venture-backed companies or debt facility compliance.
Compensation
- Stock options
- Competitive pay
- Healthcare, dental, and vision benefits
- 401(k) plan and matching contribution
- Unlimited PTO and sick leave
