Your Part-Time Controller, LLC (YPTC) is seeking a dedicated Controller for nonprofit organizations to guide client accounting functions in the Chicago area. The role supports multiple nonprofit clients, performing financial reporting, audits, grant management, and internal controls with a focus on mission impact.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance is required.
• 5-7+ years of accounting experience within nonprofits or related field.
• Experience with remote work preferred.
• Proficiency in Excel and multiple GL systems, especially QuickBooks.
• CPA is a plus; bilingual English/Spanish is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Transform nonprofit client financial departments to meet mission.
• Prepare financial reporting for management and Board decisions.
• Improve accounting processes, internal controls, and compliance.
• Handle AP/AR, payroll, month-end close, and reconciliations.
• Grant management, budgeting, and funder reporting.

We are looking for a dedicated, personable, hands-on Controller seeking a dynamic opportunity to guide our clients and provide transformative accounting services. Successful candidates must be comfortable working with multiple clients both virtually and on-site. The Controller will interact with clients, their staff, Board of Directors, and Finance Committees on a regular basis.

Responsibilities

• Transforming nonprofit client financial departments to help them meet their mission!
• Financial reporting for management and Board decision making and presentations
• Recommending and implementing improvements to accounting, operations, internal controls, and compliance policies and procedures, supporting client strategy and best practices
• Transactional activities including accounts payable, accounts receivable (revenue recognition and billing), and payroll, general accounting, reconciliations, month-end close, and maintaining workpapers
• Analysis and data visualization, budgeting and forecasting
• Grant management, allocations, and funder reporting
• Prepare for and manage annual audit
• Client and staff training opportunities

Qualifications

• Passionate about working in or supporting non-profit organizations
• Bachelor’s Degree required, preferably in Accounting or Finance
• 5-7 plus years accounting experience
• Experience working in a remote environment preferred
• Ability to manage and lead multiple clients, work independently, and be responsive on a timely basis
• Demonstrated strong Microsoft Excel skills
• Experience with multiple GL packages, especially QuickBooks, and electronic bill pay systems
• Non-profit accounting, public accounting experience, and/or consulting experience is a plus but not required
• CPA certification is a plus
• Bilingual-English/Spanish a plus

Starting annual base salary is $100,000 to $125,000 based on a 35-hour work week for this non-exempt position. Total compensation may increase with overtime pay and eligibility for various bonuses. A professional development reimbursement and technology stipend are also provided on an annual basis.
