Job summary

Astrana Health is seeking a Controller for the Care Partners segment to own the general ledger, close calendar, and period-end reporting, delivering statements and analysis to senior leadership. The role drives close acceleration, standardization, and SOX 404 controls across multiple entities.

You will own complex revenue arrangements, partner with actuarial teams on claims liabilities, and lead integration of acquired physician groups onto standardized policies and ERP.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA required.
  • 10+ years of progressive accounting experience, including 3+ years leading a multi-entity accounting or controllership function
  • Deep, current knowledge of US GAAP and SEC registrant reporting requirements
  • Demonstrated hands-on ownership of SOX 404 — designing and documenting controls, remediating deficiencies, and supporting external audit testing — in a public company setting
  • Healthcare experience in a risk-bearing or capitated environment with exposure to capitation revenue, claims expense, and IBNR estimates
  • Proven track record of close acceleration, multi-entity standardization, and accounting automation
  • Ability to lead teams across multiple locations and communicate with executives and auditors

Responsibilities

  • Own the Care Partners general ledger, close calendar, and period-end reporting — delivering financial statements, flux analysis, and balance-sheet substantiation to the CFO and CAO each period.
  • Drive close acceleration and standardization across all segment entities, reducing cycle time and eliminating recurring out-of-period adjustments.
  • Design, document, and operate SOX 404 controls for the segment — revenue, capitation, claims, IBNR, risk-pool settlements, and related IT-dependent controls — and lead remediation where deficiencies exist.
  • Own the accounting for complex revenue arrangements, including professional and institutional capitation, shared-risk settlements, and quality-based payments.
  • Partner with Actuarial and Medical Economics on claims liability and IBNR estimates — understanding the model, challenging inputs, and owning the accounting conclusion.
  • Lead integration of acquired physician groups and IPAs onto the company's policies, chart of accounts, close calendar, and control framework.
  • Identify and reduce manual effort across the segment — reconciliations, journal entries, spreadsheets — and act as the accounting owner for automation and ERP initiatives.
  • Coordinate with the external auditor, internal audit, and regulatory examiners as the segment's primary accounting contact.
  • Lead and develop the segment accounting team across multiple offices, building bench strength and eliminating single points of failure.

Description

Astrana Health is a physician-centric, technology-powered healthcare company enabling providers to deliver high-quality, value-based care. We partner with thousands of physicians across the country through our risk-bearing Care Partners segment, the largest and most complex part of our accounting organization, where capitation revenue, claims liability, and risk-pool settlements come together. This is a high-visibility role at the intersection of technical accounting, operational controllership, and public-company compliance.

Our Values:

  • Put Patients First
  • Empower Entrepreneurial Provider and Care Teams
  • Operate with Integrity & Excellence
  • Be Innovative
  • Work As One Team
What You'll Do
  • Own the Care Partners general ledger, close calendar, and period-end reporting — delivering financial statements, flux analysis, and balance-sheet substantiation to the CFO and CAO each period.
  • Partner with Actuarial and Medical Economics on claims liability and incurred-but-not-reported (IBNR) estimates — understanding the model, challenging inputs, and owning the accounting conclusion.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; CPA required
  • 10+ years of progressive accounting experience, including 3+ years leading a multi-entity accounting or controllership function

  • Demonstrated hands-on ownership of SOX 404 — designing and documenting controls, remediating deficiencies, and supporting external audit testing — in a public company setting
  • Healthcare experience in a risk-bearing or capitated environment (managed care, IPA, medical group, health plan, or comparable value-based care organization) with direct exposure to capitation revenue, claims expense, and IBNR estimates
  • Proven track record of close acceleration, multi-entity standardization, and accounting automation
  • Ability to lead teams across multiple locations and communicate directly with executives and auditors
Preferred Qualifications
  • Big Four or national firm audit experience with public-company clients
  • Experience remediating a material weakness or executing a first-time or expanded SOX scope
  • Integration experience — bringing acquired entities onto a common ledger, calendar, and control framework
  • Familiarity with California managed-care regulation and restricted-license entity reporting
  • ERP implementation or replacement experience; Master's degree a plus
