Position Overview
The Controller will oversee all accounting and financial operations for a complex nonprofit healthcare organization. Reporting directly to the CFO, this individual will lead a team of accounting professionals and be responsible for financial reporting, compliance, audits, grants management, cash management, payroll, and strategic financial support. Responsibilities Of The Controller
- Lead all accounting and finance operations, including general ledger, accounts payable, payroll, grant accounting, contracts, and cash management.
- Manage the monthly and year-end close process and ensure timely, accurate financial reporting.
- Prepare financial statements, forecasts, regulatory filings, and board reporting packages.
- Coordinate and manage external audits and regulatory reviews.
- Ensure compliance with GAAP, grant requirements, Uniform Guidance, Medicare, Medicaid, and other applicable regulations.
- Partner with executive leadership to support strategic financial planning and organizational decision-making.
- Develop, mentor, and supervise a team of accounting and finance professionals.
- Strengthen internal controls, policies, and financial processes to support organizational growth.
Required Experience/Skills For The Controller
- 10+ years of progressive accounting and finance leadership experience.
- Prior experience within a nonprofit healthcare environment.
- Strong audit management experience, including Uniform Guidance audits.
- Experience with grant and contract accounting.
- Deep understanding of GAAP and nonprofit accounting principles.
- Knowledge of Medicare, Medicaid, and regulatory compliance requirements.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
- Proven experience leading and developing accounting teams.
Preferred Experience/Skills For The Controller
- Experience within a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) or similar healthcare organization.
- Public accounting background strongly preferred.
- Experience with Sage Intacct, Solomon, and/or Paycom.
- Experience managing accounting operations for organizations with $10M+ operating budgets.
Education Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree in Accounting required.
- CPA or equivalent public accounting experience strongly preferred.
