Remora seeks a hands-on Controller to build and lead the accounting function as we move from development to commercial operations. You will own the general ledger, monthly close, technical accounting, financial reporting, and audit, with a path to grow the team.

We’re building modular carbon capture systems and launching new revenue streams, with a focus on scalable accounting processes and ERP migration away from QuickBooks over the next 12–18 months.

Qualifications

• CPA required with public accounting background and strong audit footing.
• 10+ years of progressive accounting and controllership experience.
• Experience building processes and owning complex accounting problems.

Responsibilities

• Own monthly close, GL, and financial reporting processes including payroll, AP and AR.
• Lead revenue recognition and accounts receivable across streams.
• Develop accounting policies, internal controls, and procedures as the company scales.
• Lead the first financial audit and interact with auditors on technical positions.
• Manage debt, leases, equity, warrants, and lender reporting covenants.
• Oversee fixed assets, CIP, depreciation, and cost of sales.
• Manage ERP selection/implementation to replace QuickBooks in 12–18 months.
• Build multi-entity and project-level accounting processes.
• Partner with Finance, Operations, Engineering, Legal and others; develop the team.

Job description

Remora is seeking a Controller to build and lead our accounting function as we transition from technology development into commercial operations, bringing our first capital projects into service, launching new revenue streams, and preparing for our first financial statement audit and ERP migration. This is a hands-on leadership role — you will own the general ledger, monthly close, technical accounting, financial reporting, and audit, with significant ownership from day one and the opportunity to build and lead the team as we scale.

We’re building modular carbon capture systems, turning exhaust into beverage-grade CO₂ sold to breweries and greenhouses. We deploy in regions facing severe CO₂ shortages, where prices are highest, allowing us to generate high margins without relying on tax credits or carbon credits.

We’ve raised over $150 million in funding from top investors including Lowercarbon Capital, Union Square Ventures, First Round Capital, Y Combinator, and Valor Equity Partners.

Responsibilities:

• Own the monthly close, general ledger, and financial reporting process, including payroll, AP, and AR during the early stages of the role.
• Lead revenue recognition and accounts receivable across multiple revenue streams.
• Develop and implement accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls as the company scales.
• Lead Remora through its first financial audit, including technical accounting positions, documentation, schedules, and auditor relationships.
• Manage accounting for debt, leases, equity instruments, warrants, and other complex financing arrangements, including lender reporting and covenant requirements.
• Support fixed asset and construction-in-progress accounting, including capitalization, project costs, placing assets into service, depreciation, and cost of sales.
• Lead the accounting workstream for the selection and implementation of a new ERP, replacing QuickBooks over the next 12-18 months.
• Build scalable multi-entity and project-level accounting processes as Remora's project financing structures expand.
• Partner closely with Finance, Operations, Engineering, Legal, and other teams to ensure accounting accurately reflects the business.
• Build, manage, and develop the accounting team as the company grows.

Requirements:

• CPA required.
• Public accounting experience with a strong audit foundation, ideally at a large national or global firm.
• 10+ years of progressive accounting and controllership experience.
• Several years of experience in an industry controllership, technical accounting, or similar role following public accounting.
• Strong technical accounting judgment and experience developing and defending accounting positions with auditors.
• Demonstrated ability to take ownership of complex accounting problems and build processes from the ground up.
