City Wide Facility Solutions – Richmond, VA
Location: Powhatan, VA

About City Wide

City Wide Facility Solutions is a leading provider of commercial facility services, supporting businesses with comprehensive janitorial and facility maintenance solutions. The Richmond office is a growing operation with approximately $24–25 million in annual revenue and a strong opportunity for continued growth.

Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Controller to oversee the accounting function for our Richmond operation. This is a hands‑on leadership role for someone who is equally comfortable managing the bigger financial picture and getting into the details when needed.

The Controller will oversee a small accounting team, currently consisting of one Bookkeeper, and will be responsible for ensuring the accuracy and integrity of the company's financial operations. The ideal candidate has a minimum of 1–2+ years of Controller experience, strong technical accounting knowledge, and the ability to independently identify and resolve issues within the financials.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced accounting professional who is looking for a long‑term career opportunity with room to grow into a CFO‑level role.

Key Responsibilities
  • Oversee the day‑to‑day accounting function, while remaining hands‑on with key accounting activities and financial processes.
  • Manage and develop the Bookkeeper, providing direction, oversight, and appropriate checks and balances.
  • Oversee contract billing, accounts payable, accounts receivable, bank reconciliations, credit card reconciliations, and general ledger activity.
  • Review financial transactions and reconciliations for accuracy and investigate discrepancies or unusual activity.
  • Lead the monthly close process and ensure financials are accurate and completed on a timely basis.
  • Review the P&L, balance sheet, and cash flow each month, identify trends or discrepancies, and determine the appropriate action needed.
  • Prepare and/or review monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and management reports in accordance with GAAP and company standards.
  • Handle more complex accounting responsibilities, including year‑end adjustments and other technical accounting matters.
  • Understand and manage the company's unique accounting structure, including separate payables associated with independent contractors as well as traditional business/vendor payables.
  • Provide financial insight and reporting to office leadership, helping translate financial information into actionable business decisions.
  • Support budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis.
  • Maintain strong internal controls and accounting procedures to ensure accuracy and compliance.
  • Coordinate with City Wide Corporate and other internal resources as needed.
  • Support internal and external audits and provide requested schedules and documentation.
  • Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes, systems, and efficiencies.
  • As the business grows, assume additional accounting responsibilities and ultimately support the financial operations of multiple locations.
What We're Looking For
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field required.
  • 1–2+ years of Controller experience with demonstrated ownership of an organization’s accounting function.
  • Strong understanding of GAAP, financial statements, reconciliations, P&L, balance sheet, and cash flow.
  • Demonstrated ability to identify, investigate, and resolve accounting discrepancies independently.
  • Comfortable being hands‑on with day‑to‑day accounting responsibilities while also operating at a higher strategic level.
  • Experience managing or mentoring accounting staff.
  • Strong attention to detail, organization, and follow‑through.
  • Excellent analytical and problem‑solving skills.
  • Ability to communicate financial information clearly to non‑financial leaders.
  • CPA, CPA candidate, or actively pursuing CPA designation preferred.
  • Experience in a service‑based, construction, franchise, or other multi‑revenue/multi‑payables environment is a plus.
  • Experience working in a smaller or mid‑size business environment is highly desirable.
  • Strong interest in building a long‑term career with an organization that offers opportunities for professional growth.
Compensation & Growth

Salary: $100,000–$120,000, based on experience and qualifications, with a bonus program currently being developed.

This position offers the opportunity to grow with a successful and expanding operation. The Controller will report directly to office leadership and will have the potential to progress toward a CFO‑level role, with increasing responsibility as the Richmond and Blue Ridge operations continue to grow.

Why Join City Wide?
  • Join a growing organization with a strong local operation and established revenue base.
  • Take ownership of a critical business function rather than being one person within a large accounting department.
  • Work closely with leadership and have a direct impact on business performance.
  • Build and lead the accounting function while developing professionally.
  • Opportunity for long‑term career growth into a CFO‑level position.
  • Be part of a collaborative team that values accountability, professionalism, and continuous improvement.
