Join to apply for the Controller role at Ottimate

Ottimate (formerly Plate IQ) helps fast growing businesses automate accounts payables on their terms. We simplify everything from invoice management to payments for both recurring and one-off expenses with a cloud-first approach that enables remote work. Ottimate’s AP Automation and VendorPay Network helps businesses pay and get paid faster.

At Ottimate, passion generates excitement for what we do and how we do it. With passion at the heart of everything we do, we nurture ideas, inspire excellence, and find creative ways to eliminate obstacles for cultivating growth. The positive attitude with which we assist one another develops open, honest, and genuine connections. Above all, we celebrate and embrace our differences. We invest in each other because we win or lose as a team.

Our values are at the center of our company and culture. At Ottimate (formerly Plate IQ), we value: Growth, Customer Focus, Innovation, Accountability, and Communication.

The Role

Ottimate is seeking a highly skilled Controller to join our accounting and finance team and report directly to our CFO. As the Controller at Ottimate, you will play a critical role in overseeing all accounting operations, ensuring compliance with accounting principles, and providing accurate and timely financial reporting. You will collaborate closely with various teams, including Accounting & Finance, Sales, Operations, and Senior Leadership, to drive strategic financial initiatives and support the company's growth objectives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Financial Operations Oversight: Manage day-to-day financial operations, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, cash management, and general ledger activities.
  • Financial Statement Preparation: Manage and perform calculations and reconciliations for month-end close. Prepare timely and accurate financial statements, including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statements, and provide insightful analysis to support decision-making.
  • Compliance and Risk Management: Ensure adherence to accounting principles, financial regulations, and internal controls, and proactively identify and mitigate financial risks. Responsible for regulatory filings and compliance matters.
  • Risk Mitigation: Develop and implement risk mitigation strategies, including insurance coverage, to protect the company from financial uncertainties.
  • Audit and Tax Coordination: Coordinate and manage external audits, ensuring timely completion and compliance. Collaborate with external tax advisors to ensure accurate tax reporting and compliance.
  • Process Optimization: Continuously assess and enhance financial processes and internal controls to optimize efficiency. Identify opportunities for automation and implement scalable solutions.
  • Treasury/Cash Management: Monitor and optimize cash flow, including investments, financing, and treasury management, to ensure the company's liquidity and financial stability.
  • Financial Policy Development: Develop and maintain financial policies and procedures to ensure consistency, transparency, and compliance across the organization.
  • Vendor Management: Manage relationships with third-party vendors and partners whose services support the SaaS platform, including evaluating costs and service quality.

Requirements

  • Must be interested in working for a “start up” high-growth, technology company in a fast-paced environment.
  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field. CPA or CMA certification is highly preferred.
  • ‘Can-Do’ Attitude: As a fast growing company, we wear many hats. A proactive and can-do attitude with a willingness to roll up your sleeves is critical.
  • Strong Intellectual Aptitude/Curiosity and Analytical Skills: Excellent business acumen and analytical/problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify trends, issues, and opportunities for improvement.
  • Prior Experience: Proven experience as a Controller, Asst. Controller, or similar role in a stand-alone company (not only at a divisional level). Prior experience running disciplined month and year-end close processes is a must. Preference given to those with prior experience in a SaaS or Fintech company with knowledge of industry-specific accounting standards and practices.
  • Accounting Knowledge: Strong knowledge of US GAAP and accounting principles. Experience with revenue recognition and SaaS metrics is desirable.
  • Attention to Detail: Detail-oriented with a high level of accuracy and strong organizational skills.
  • Communication: Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to effectively collaborate with cross-functional teams and present financial information to non-finance stakeholders.
  • Audit Expertise: Experience conducting financial and other process audits.
  • ERP Implementation Experience: Experience in successfully implementing and optimizing Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems a plus. Candidates with a track record of integrating ERP solutions into a SaaS business environment will be given preference.
  • California/West Coast residency is a plus but not necessary.

We care deeply about making Ottimate an incredible place to work and invest a significant amount of time and energy into creating and maintaining a company culture that provides our team with a generous level of support whilst inspiring them to do their best work.

  • Employer sponsored 401(k) with company match.
  • Paid Time Off (and the encouragement to use it).
  • Annual company retreats.
  • Promote from within philosophy.

Beyond the tangible benefits though:

  • You will be part of a growing team, at a pinnacle moment of scale for the business, and experience the excitement of working in a startup where each action makes a huge difference.
  • You will have the agency to solve difficult problems creatively, the freedom to explore work that inspires you, and infrastructure to ensure you're constantly challenged and developing.
