Job summary

Whitecap Search is seeking a seasoned accounting leader to oversee all accounting operations across the organization, with extensive experience in facility maintenance, trade services, or construction industries. This role requires deep expertise in job costing, revenue recognition, and internal controls.

You will drive budgeting, forecasting, month-end close, and financial statement preparation while ensuring compliance with tax and reporting requirements.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of accounting experience in facility maintenance, trades, or construction industries.
• Strong understanding of industry-specific accounting practices.

Responsibilities

• Oversee all accounting operations and tighten internal controls.
• Lead billing, AR/AP, GL, cost accounting, revenue recognition, and job costing.
• Coordinate with external auditors to ensure financial reporting compliance.
• Establish and monitor internal financial reporting controls and processes.
• Direct budgeting activities and financial forecasting.
• Oversee month-end and year-end close processes.
• Prepare and file state sales tax returns and manage audits.
• Maintain WIP schedules and reporting.
• Publish timely monthly financial statements.
• Ensure accuracy of reporting and payroll tax filings.
• Develop accounting policies to strengthen controls and efficiency.
• Partner with project managers for accurate job costing.

This role requires a detail-oriented individual with excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.

• Billing, accounts receivable, accounts payable, general ledger, cost accounting, revenue recognition, and job costing.
• Collaborate with external auditors to ensure compliance with all financial reporting guidelines and procedures.
• Establish, implement, and monitor internal financial reporting controls and processes.
• Coordinate and direct budgeting activities and financial forecasting.
• Oversee month-end and year-end closing processes.
• Prepare and file state sales tax returns and manage routine state audits.
• Maintain and manage Work in Process (WIP) schedules and reporting.
• Prepare and publish timely monthly financial statements.
• Ensure accuracy and quality control over financial reporting and transactions.
• Manage compliance with local, state, and federal reporting and payroll tax filing requirements.
• Develop and document accounting policies and procedures to strengthen internal controls and operational efficiency.
• Partner with project managers and cross-functional departments to ensure accurate project financial reporting and job costing.

Requirements

• Must be legally authorized to work in the United States.
• 10 years of accounting experience within the facility maintenance, trade services, construction industry, or a related service industry, with a strong understanding of industry-specific accounting practices.
• Strong understanding of construction accounting principles, including job costing and Work in Process (WIP) reporting.
• Knowledge of sales tax regulations related to construction and service industries, including exempt organizations, capital improvement projects, maintenance vs. construction classifications, and multi-state compliance requirements.
• Proven experience as a Controller or in a similar leadership accounting role.
• Experience preparing and analyzing financial statements.
• Detail-oriented with strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
• Self-starter with the ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
