Job summary

UHY-US is seeking a hands-on Controller to lead the accounting and finance function for a growing construction and demolition client in Fresno, CA. This role focuses on accurate GAAP reporting, project profitability, cash flow, and business performance in a fast-paced, project-driven environment.

The ideal candidate has 7+ years of progressive accounting experience, CPA preferred, with expertise in job costing, percentage-of-completion, WIP reporting, and month-end close management.

Qualifications

  • 7+ years progressive accounting experience in construction or similar project-driven industry.
  • Experience with month-end close, budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis.
  • Experience with job costing, WIP, and percentage-of-completion accounting.

Responsibilities

  • Lead monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes, ensuring timely and accurate financial reporting in accordance with GAAP
  • Prepare and review monthly financial statements, account reconciliations, and variance analyses for executive leadership
  • Oversee all aspects of general accounting, including the general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, fixed assets, and cash management
  • Partner with project managers and operations leadership to monitor project budgets, labor costs, equipment utilization, subcontractor expenses, and overall financial performance
  • Develop and maintain rolling cash flow forecasts and assist leadership with liquidity planning and working capital management
  • Prepare annual budgets, financial forecasts, and support long-range business planning
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local tax requirements, including sales and use tax, payroll tax, property tax, and contractor licensing requirements
  • Coordinate annual financial statement audits, tax preparation, and work with external auditors, banks, insurance providers, and other third-party partners
  • Establish and maintain strong internal controls and accounting policies to safeguard company assets

Key Responsibilities

Qualification
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field required; CPA preferred
  • 7+ years of progressive accounting experience
  • Construction, demolition, heavy civil, environmental services, or specialty contracting industry experience preferred, not required
  • Experience managing the month-end close and preparing financial statements
  • Experience with budgeting, forecasting, cash flow management, and financial analysis
  • Familiarity with construction accounting software
