Job summary

Digital Cloak seeks an experienced Controller to lead accounting operations and policy development, reporting to the CFO in a key leadership role.

You will supervise GL, billing, AP/AR, payroll, and month‑end close, while driving compliance with GAAP and government contracting requirements, and coordinating with auditors and tax professionals. This is an on‑site role in Northern Virginia with travel up to 25%.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Devise and oversee implementation of accounting policy.
  • Maintain documented system of accounting policies and procedures; implement controls over transactions to minimize risk.
  • Identify financial risks and propose mitigation strategies.
  • Implement and maintain ERP system and train employees as appropriate.
  • Oversee monthly close, billing, AR, AP, payroll, and fixed assets.
  • Prepare financial reports and ensure GAAP compliance.
  • Present reports to executive leadership and support decision making.
  • Lead budgeting, forecasts, and cost/price analysis for bids and contracts.
  • Coordinate with external auditors and tax preparers for audits and tax filing.
  • Collaborate with program managers on budget/forecast comparisons and regulatory filings.
  • Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal requirements.
  • Partner with CFO on reporting, planning, and risk management.

Job Summary:

The Controller reports to the CFO and is an integral member of the corporate leadership team. The Controller will plan and direct the accounting operations of the company. The Controller will establish and maintain the company’s overall accounting systems, procedures, and policies in support of the company’s strategic objectives and processes.

Supervisory Responsibilities:
  • Oversees the operations of the Accounting Department, which include general ledger, billing, accounts payable, accounts receivable, bank reconciliations, and payroll.
  • Oversees accounting-related training programs and identifies training needs.
Essential Functions:
  • Devise and oversee implementation of accounting policy
  • Maintains a documented system of accounting policies and procedures; implements a system of controls over accounting transactions to minimize risk.
  • Identify financial risks and propose mitigation strategies.
  • Implements and maintains all aspects of the Company’s enterprise resource planning system and facilitates training for employees as appropriate.
  • Oversees the production of periodic financial reports; ensures that the reported results comply with generally accepted accounting principles.
  • Supervise the monthly close process, monthly billings to customers, collection of accounts receivable, accounts payable, fixed assets, expense reporting and payroll.
  • Present financial reports and control matters to executive leadership.
  • Recommends benchmarks that will be used to measure the company’s performance.
  • Produces the annual budget and forecasts; reports significant budget differences to management.
  • Leads pricing strategy and cost/price proposal development for new business pursuits and contract modifications, in coordination with Business Development and Contracts, along with financial analysis emphasizing capital investments and contract negotiations.
  • Works with external auditors and provides needed information for the annual audit, and works with external tax preparers on the completion of Federal and State tax reporting requirements.
  • Work with program and project managers to evaluate budget and forecast comparisons.
  • Files quarterly and annual reports with the regulatory agencies as required.
  • Ensures compliance with local, state, and federal government requirements.
  • Performs other related duties as necessary or assigned.
  • Partner with the CFO on financial reporting, planning, and risk management.
  • Promote and institute process improvement initiatives throughout the close and reporting cycle.
Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
  • Excellent management and supervisory skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Deep expertise in GAAP, internal controls, financial reporting, and the ERP and close-automation platforms modern finance teams rely on.
  • Experience with Unanet (or comparable GovCon-specific ERP/timekeeping systems) strongly preferred.
  • Excellent analytical skills and strong knowledge of DFAR, FAR as well as DCAA and DCMA compliance.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite or similar software.
  • Experience applying AI-enabled tools to accounting close, reconciliation, or reporting processes to improve efficiency and support scalability, a plus.
  • Demonstrated experience in government contract pricing, including cost volume development, indirect rate structuring (fringe, overhead, G&A), and cost- or price-based proposal strategies for competitive bids and task orders.
Required Education, Certifications/ Licenses, Related Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance required.
  • 8+ years of progressive accounting experience, including supervisory experience.
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or Certified Management Accountant (CMA) designation strongly preferred.
Physical Job Requirements:
  • This position requires the ability to remain in a stationary position (standing and/or seated) more than half the time
  • This position requires the ability to spend more than half the time viewing computer monitors
  • Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
Travel Requirements:
  • This position has up to 25% travel requirements
Primary Work Location:

Digital Cloak headquarters, meetings within the Northern Virginia Area (NVA).
