Job summary

DeWinter Group, a leading construction company, is seeking a Corporate Controller to lead the entire operations accounting function in San Jose, CA. This senior role oversees a department of over 50 professionals and serves as the primary architect for talent strategy while communicating financial risks and opportunities to the executive team.

You will own revenue and margin recognition, forecast cash flow, and partner with Operations Managers on project financials.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, or related field.
  • Minimum 15 years of progressive finance or accounting experience, construction or heavy industrial sectors preferred.
  • CPA or CCIFP certification strongly preferred.
  • Experience with large ERP systems (Oracle EBS, SAP).

Responsibilities

  • Financial Oversight: Own revenue and margin recognition, billing strategy, and cash flow forecasting.
  • Strategic Reporting: Compile KPIs, assess risk, and present income and overhead forecasts to leadership.
  • Operational Partnership: Review project revenue/cost projections with Operations Managers and support capacity planning.
  • Talent Management: Lead succession planning, hiring, and onboarding for the operations accounting team.
  • Process & Governance: Establish internal controls and drive automation of financial tech.

Job description

Our client in the construction space, one of the largest with over $10 billion in revenue, is looking for a Corporate Controller that will lead the entire operations accounting function. This senior leadership role oversees large-scale operations accounting for the organization and manages a department of over 50 professionals. The position serves as the primary architect for the department's talent strategy and acts as the critical link for communicating financial risks and opportunities to the executive team.

What You'll Do
  • Financial Oversight: Own the complete revenue and margin recognition cycle, enterprise-level over/under billing strategy, and full-cycle cash flow forecasting.
  • Strategic Reporting: Synthesize KPIs to identify enterprise trends, assess organizational risk, and communicate net income and overhead forecasts for all operations to senior leadership.
  • Operational Partnership: Review project revenue and cost projections with Operations Managers and support leadership in planning for shifts in project volume.
  • Talent Management: Lead succession planning, hiring, and onboarding for the operations accounting team, ensuring full role utilization and professional growth through strategic delegation.
  • Process & Governance: Establish internal control frameworks and departmental policies. Drive automation and the integration of new financial technologies.

What You'll Need to Be Successful
  • Technical Mastery: Expert-level GAAP knowledge, specifically ASC 606 for long-term construction projects.
  • Industry Acumen: Sophisticated understanding of EPC (Engineering, Procurement, and Construction), specialty subcontracting, and large-scale industrial business units.
  • Systems Experience: Proficiency in tier-1 ERP packages (e.g., Oracle EBS, SAP, or similar).

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 15 years of progressive finance or accounting experience, with a strong preference for the construction or heavy industrial sectors.
