Job summary

SpawGlass is seeking a results-driven Controller to lead the financial operations of our construction business in Fort Worth, TX. You will oversee general ledger, job cost accounting, revenue recognition, and close processes, partnering with executives to drive profitability.

You will mentor the accounting team, strengthen internal controls, and deliver GAAP-compliant reporting with actionable insights for project performance and cash flow planning across the organization.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related discipline; CPA/CMA preferred.
  • Progressive accounting experience with leadership responsibility in construction or project-based industries.
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP, percentage-of-completion accounting, and construction financial practices.
  • Experience with construction ERP systems and project-based accounting platforms.
  • Advanced proficiency in Excel and financial reporting tools.
  • Proven ability to lead teams and partner with operations and executive leadership.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the full accounting lifecycle including general ledger, job cost, AP/AR, and payroll.
  • Manage monthly and annual close, GAAP-compliant financial statements, WIP, and revenue recognition.
  • Collaborate with project teams to monitor budgets, analyze cost variances, and support owner billings.
  • Ensure contract compliance and manage cash flow forecasting while liaising with lenders, auditors, and sureties.
  • Lead system implementations or upgrades and improve reporting, dashboards and internal controls.
  • Mentor and develop accounting staff to support growth and performance.

Job description

As our Controller, you will lead the financial operations of our construction business, providing strategic oversight and hands‑on leadership across all accounting functions. You will partner closely with executive leadership and project teams to ensure accurate financial reporting, strong internal controls, and actionable insights that support project performance and overall company profitability.

Day‑to‑day, you will oversee the full accounting life cycle, including general ledger, job cost accounting, accounts payable and receivable, and payroll. You will manage the monthly and annual close processes, prepare and review GAAP‑compliant financial statements, and maintain the work‑in‑progress (WIP) schedule and revenue recognition. You will collaborate with project teams to monitor budgets, analyze cost variances, support owner billings, and ensure contract compliance, while also managing cash flow forecasting and maintaining relationships with lenders, auditors, and sureties.

Experienced controllers in this role may take on expanded responsibility for advancing financial strategy and operational excellence. This includes leading system implementations or upgrades, improving reporting and dashboards, strengthening internal controls, and optimizing processes across accounting and project financial management. They play a key role in advising leadership on risk, profitability, and growth opportunities, while mentoring and developing accounting team members.

Your Background
