Job summary

Jobot in Pomona, CA is seeking a Controller to manage financial operations for a leading civil contractor specializing in drilling and shoring work. The role is on-site and permanent, with a salary range of $130,000 to $160,000 per year.

You will lead monthly closes within 10–15 days, oversee project cost accounting, KPIs, and budgeting, and collaborate with owners on financial strategy. Experience in construction accounting and leadership of accounting staff is required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance is required.
• CPA is preferred but not always required; CMA or similar certs are beneficial.
• Hands-on accounting experience in construction or related field.
• Experience producing monthly financial statements and budgets.

Responsibilities

• Produce accurate monthly financial statements within 10-15 days after month-end.
• Develop annual budgets and analyze gross profit by project.
• Monitor project margins and identify cost overruns early.
• Improve internal controls and develop KPIs for executives.
• Present financial results to ownership and support strategic decisions.

Experience

Hands-on accounting

• 10-15+ years in a Controller, Assistant Controller, or Senior Accounting Manager with progressive accounting and finance experience
• Construction industry experience (strongly preferred) General contractor, specialty contractor - drilling and shoring contractor (commercial/ residential)
• Experience supporting companies in the $15 million to $20 million revenue range
• Technical Construction Knowledge (beneficial)
• Percentage-of-completion revenue recognition
• Work-in-progress (WIP) schedules
• Job costing
• Change orders
• Project profitability analysis
• Retainage accounting
• Progress billing (AIA billing)
• Certified payroll / Union payroll
• Equipment costing
• Overhead allocation
• Cash flow forecasting for projects
• Construction contract accounting
• Financial Leadership

• Build dashboards for owners and project managers.
