Job summary

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related field.
  • CPA designation preferred but not required.
  • At least 7 years of progressively responsible accounting experience.
  • Experience in law-firm or professional-services environments preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of general accounting, financial reporting, budgeting, payroll, cash management, and internal controls.
  • Experience supervising accounting staff and meeting deadlines.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the general ledger, monthly and year-end closings, account reconciliations, journal entries, and financial reporting.
  • Prepare monthly financial statements, cash-flow reports, budgets, forecasts, and variance analyses.
  • Supervise billing, collections, accounts receivable, accounts payable, payroll, and cash management.
  • Monitor work in process, accounts-receivable aging, collections, realization, and other law-firm financial metrics.
  • Oversee client trust accounting and related reconciliations and controls.
  • Manage banking relationships and cash-flow planning.
  • Develop and maintain effective accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls.
  • Supervise and develop accounting personnel and provide hands-on assistance as needed.
  • Identify opportunities to improve financial systems, reporting, and accounting processes.
  • Provide financial information and practical analysis to firm leadership.

Metz Lewis is seeking a hands-on Controller to oversee the firm’s accounting and financial operations.
