Job summary

Nextera Search is assisting a financial services firm in New York City in finding an experienced Controller to lead accounting and reporting for investment funds. The role requires close collaboration with fund administrators, auditors, and tax advisors, ensuring compliance with US GAAP and timely investor reporting.

The ideal candidate will have 7–12 years of progressive accounting experience, a CPA preferred, and a strong background in fund accounting and public/private sector settings.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
• CPA designation strongly preferred.
• 7–12 years of progressive accounting experience in both public and private settings.
• Big Four public accounting experience is highly preferred.
• Strong knowledge of fund accounting, financial reporting, and U.S. GAAP.
• Experience preparing and reviewing financial statements and investor reporting.

• Assist with debt reporting, covenant compliance, and lender requirements.
• Prepare financial analyses and reporting packages for leadership and lenders.
• Research technical accounting matters including fair value measurements.

A Financial Services Firm based in New York City is seeking an experienced accounting professional to join their team as a Controller. This role will follow a hybrid schedule.

Responsibilities:

• Oversee third-party fund administrators responsible for the accounting and financial reporting of investment funds and related entities.
• Manage the quarterly and annual close process by reviewing financial reports, reconciliations, supporting schedules, and other key deliverables.
• Prepare and review quarterly and annual financial statements in accordance with U.S. GAAP.
• Review investor reporting materials, including capital activity, fee calculations, performance reporting, and other fund communications.
• Act as the primary point of contact for external service providers, including fund administrators, auditors, tax advisors, and other business partners.
• Support accounting and reporting for investment transactions, financing activities, and other strategic initiatives.
• Assist with debt reporting, lender requirements, covenant compliance, and related financing obligations.
• Prepare financial analyses and reporting packages for internal leadership, lenders, and other stakeholders.
• Research and document technical accounting matters, including investment transactions, consolidations, fair value measurements, and other complex accounting topics.
• Perform other duties, as needed.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field required.
• CPA designation strongly preferred.
• 7 to 12 years of progressive accounting experience, including a combination of public accounting and private industry experience.
• Big Four public accounting experience is strongly preferred.
• Strong knowledge of fund accounting, financial reporting, and U.S. GAAP.
• Experience preparing and reviewing financial statements, audit support, footnote disclosures, and investor reporting.
