Silco, Incorporated in Mentor, Ohio, is seeking a Controller to lead day-to-day accounting and financial operations for a growing manufacturing business.

You will oversee general ledger, cost accounting, budgeting, and audits, partner with operations to improve profitability, and manage ERP data integrity while developing staff.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance is required.
• 5–10 years of progressive accounting experience, with several years in manufacturing.
• CPA or CMA is a plus but not required.
• Experience with ERP systems in a manufacturing environment.
• Strong Excel and analytical skills.
• Excellent communication across operations, production, sales, and leadership.

Responsibilities

• Manage all accounting functions, including general ledger, fixed assets, and month end close.
• Prepare timely and accurate monthly financial statements and management reports.
• Analyze monthly P&L results and provide insight into business performance.
• Monitor and report on gross margins, manufacturing costs, and product profitability.
• Maintain and improve standard costing, inventory valuation, and cost accounting processes.
• Analyze manufacturing variances, inventory trends, labor efficiencies, and overhead costs.
• Partner with operations to identify cost savings and process improvements.
• Provide guidance on pricing decisions through cost and margin analysis.
• Work with purchasing to monitor raw material costs and supplier performance.
• Assist with budgeting and forecasting.

About the Position

The Controller is responsible for the day-to-day accounting and financial operations of our growing company. Reporting directly to senior leadership, this role is responsible for ensuring accurate financial reporting, maintaining strong internal controls, supporting operational decision-making, and providing financial analysis that helps improve profitability.

Position Responsibilities

• Manages all accounting functions, including general ledger, fixed assets, and month end close; as well as provide general oversite on the management of payables, receivables and payroll.
• Prepare timely and accurate monthly financial statements and management reports.
• Analyze monthly P&L results and provide insight into business performance.
• Monitor and report on gross margins, manufacturing costs, and product profitability.
• Maintain and improve standard costing, inventory valuation, and cost accounting processes.
• Analyze manufacturing variances, inventory trends, labor efficiencies, and overhead costs.
• Partner with operations to identify opportunities for cost savings and process improvements.
• Provide guidance and oversight into pricing decisions through cost and margin analysis.
• Work closely with purchasing to monitor raw material costs, inventory levels, supplier performance, and purchasing trends.
• Assist with annual budgeting and periodic forecasting.
• Maintain strong internal controls and ensure compliance with GAAP and company policies.
• Coordinate annual financial audits and support tax preparation with external accounting partners.
• Serve as the primary accounting resource for the company's ERP system, helping improve reporting, system accuracy, and process efficiency. Will have oversight on data integrity within other departments (customer service, purchasing and sales) as it relates to pricing.
• Supervise and develop accounting staff while fostering a collaborative and accountable team environment.

Education, Skills & Abilities

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance.
• CPA or CMA is a plus but not required.
• 5-10 years of progressive accounting experience, with several years in a manufacturing environment.
• Previous Controller or Assistant Controller experience preferred.
• Strong understanding of manufacturing accounting, including inventory, standard costing, and cost accounting.
• Experience analyzing P&L performance, margins, and manufacturing costs.
• Experience working with ERP systems in a manufacturing environment.
• Familiarity with purchasing processes, inventory management, and pricing analysis.
• Strong Excel and analytical skills.
• Excellent communication skills with the ability to work effectively across operations, production, sales, and leadership.

Preferred Experience

• Experience in silicone, chemical, plastics, rubber, or other process manufacturing industries is preferred.
• Experience supporting continuous improvement initiatives and operational cost reduction efforts.
• Knowledge of inventory controls, cycle counts, and physical inventory processes.
