You will oversee monthly consolidated financial reporting, budgets, forecasts, and internal controls, while presenting results to management and supporting external reporting requirements. The ideal candidate has a Bachelor’s in accounting, CPA preferred, and experience at assistant controller level or with a public accounting firm.

  • Experience in the food and beverage industry is desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare month-end consolidated financial statements with schedules and variance analysis.
  • Ensure statements comply with applicable accounting standards.
  • Assist with preparation of Board monthly/quarterly financial reports.
  • Lead annual budgeting process including pre-budget analysis.
  • Support external audits and regulatory requests.

Our corporate office in Livonia, Michigan is currently seeking aController to join our Finance Team! The Controller is responsible for preparing and reporting financial performance results to meet internal and external financial reporting requirements, field inquiries and prepare periodic presentations of results. Assist the Director with preparation of financial plans, forecasts, budgets, and the maintenance of its fiscal records. The Controller has responsibility for ensuring effective financial controls. The position oversees the financial processing, reconciling and reporting for the company and several its subsidiaries in the US.

Primary Responsibilities:
  • Prepare and review the month end financial statements for the Mastronardi consolidated reporting entity, including reconciliation of accounts, preparation of supporting schedules, adjusting entries, variance and ratio analysis and financial statement review
  • Ensure financial statements are prepared in accordance with applicable accounting standards
  • Research accounting guidance and prepare technical accounting memos for specific topics to establish the Company’s accounting position
  • Assist with the preparation of Board of Directors monthly and quarterly financial reports
  • Have a vital role in the preparation of the annual budgeting process, including pre-budget analysis and research
  • Participate in the annual external audit, tax preparation and be involved with periodic regulatory requests
  • Ensure that adequate management controls are in place to maintain accuracy and integrity of the financial statements. As appropriate, design and document financial control policies and procedures
  • Develop and mentor a team of professional staff
  • Develop processes within the Finance Department to provide timely financial reporting and analysis
  • Identify key performance drivers (metrics) and opportunities that can be leveraged to improve the organization's profitability and create value for all stakeholders. Implement a process for tracking and measuring results both at the corporate and business unit level
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting from an accredited University/college is required; master’s degree preferred
  • Previous experience at an assistant controller level or relevant experience with a recognized public accounting firm
  • CPA designation preferred (or in progress)
Specific Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:
  • Strong organizational, analytical and problem-solving skills. Need to be creative, adaptable and able to accurately handle out-of-the-ordinary micro issues with a sense of urgency
  • Must possess excellent communication and presentation skills and be comfortable interacting with executive-level management, present information and direction, and field questions from managers, employees and external contacts
  • Experience with Hyperion or similar consolidation softwarepreferred
  • Experience with Microsoft Navision or similar ERP system preferred
  • Strong knowledge of local, state and federal laws and requirements to maintain compliance to all relevant statutes and guiding principles
  • Experience in the food and beverage industry is desirable
Working Conditions:
  • Ability to travel between Canada and the US periodically
  • Working conditions are normal for an office environment
