Job summary

Placement By Design, Inc. seeks a Senior Accounting Professional for a Controller role in Irving, TX. The position involves strategic financial leadership across a multi-office engineering firm, with a focus on accurate reporting and fiscal discipline.

You will oversee month-end closes, project reporting, billing, payroll, and compliance, partnering with leadership to drive growth while maintaining controls. On-site at least 3 days a week with some remote days after training.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Business Administration required.
• CPA or CMA designation preferred.
• 10 years’ minimum relevant experience.
• Previous Controller or senior accounting role.
• Experience working with Project Managers and Operations Teams.
• Must have 10+ years of experience working in the US.
• Payroll administration experience.

Responsibilities

• Establish economic strategies with leadership and set objectives.
• Oversee monthly, quarterly, and year-end closes.
• Compile and report KPI’s, budgets, forecasts and benchmarking.
• Manage billing, accounts receivable/payable and payroll.
• Reconcile bank accounts, credit cards and balance sheets.
• Coordinate project and WIP reporting with directors/billers.
• Ensure tax filings and regulatory compliance.
• Liaise with external CPA firms, insurers, and 401(k) sponsors.
• Manage project setup, billing terms and reporting.
• Oversee insurance renewals and workers’ comp audits.
• Oversee 401k funding and census testing.
• Support project management reporting and training.

Job description

We are seeking a dynamic Senior Accounting Professional for a Controller position with a multi-office Engineering firm in their Irving, TX office location.

Position will work minimum of 3 days/week and sometimes 5 days per week onsite in Irving, TX. Some remote/work from home days after training is completed.

The Controller will oversee day-to-day accounting functions, ensure timely and accurate financial and project reporting, serving as a trusted advisor to the leadership team.

Responsibilities

• Recommends and establishes company economic strategies, objectives, and policies with the leadership team
• Monthly, quarterly and year-end close out
• Compile and report KPI’s, financial budgets, forecasts and industry benchmarking
• Oversee billing, accounts receivable, accounts payable and payroll
• Reconcile bank accounts, credit cards and balance sheet accounts
• Coordinate with Directors/Billers on project and WIP reporting, employee utilization and revenue recognition
• Ensure compliance with tax filings, payroll reporting and regulatory requirements
• Serve as primary liaison with external CPA firms, insurance agents, 401(k) sponsors and bankers
• Oversee Project Setup, Billing Terms and reporting
• Annual Insurance renewals and Workers’ Comp audit
• 401k funding and annual census preparation for testing
• Overhead Rate and Billing Rate tables
• Project Management reporting, trainingand support
• Oversee Accounting and Project Management training

Skills

• Proficiency in Deltek Vision and/or Vantagepoint strongly preferred
• Proficiency in HRIS Payroll systems and familiar with the payroll tax/ labor compliance requirements
• High level of competency in Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook and Teams
• Strong analytical, communication and trouble-shooting skills
• Experience in the A/E/C Industry preferred
• Strong understanding of project management reporting
• Possess a strong understanding of Contract Management
• Proactive in keeping up to date on professional and industry practices

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Business Administration required
• Certified Public Accountant or Certified Management Accountant designation preferred
• 10 years’ minimum relevant experience
• Prior experience as a Controller or Assistant Controller, Senior Accountant or similar role
• Experience working with Project Managers and Operations Teams
• Payroll Administration experience
