Job summary

Your Part-Time Controller, LLC (YPTC) is seeking a dedicated Controller for nonprofit clients in the Houston area. This hybrid role involves coordinating with client staff, Boards, and Finance Committees to deliver transformative accounting services across multiple non-profit engagements.

The ideal candidate has 5–7+ years of nonprofit accounting experience, strong Excel skills, and familiarity with QuickBooks and other GL systems.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree required in accounting or finance.
• 5–7+ years accounting experience.
• Experience with remote work is a plus.
• CPA certification is a plus.
• Bilingual English/Spanish are a plus.

Responsibilities

• Serve as outsourced Controller for multiple nonprofit clients.
• Transform nonprofit financial departments to help them meet their mission.
• Prepare financial reporting for management and Board decisions.
• Improve accounting, operations, internal controls, and compliance policies.
• Handle accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, reconciliations, month‑end close.
• Perform budgeting, forecasting, and data analysis.
• Manage grant allocations and funder reporting.
• Prepare for annual audits and respond to inquiries.
• Provide client and staff training opportunities.

We are looking for a dedicated, personable, hands-on Controllers seeking a dynamic opportunity to guide our clients and provide transformative accounting services. Successful candidates must be comfortable working with multiple clients both virtually and on-site. The Controller will interact with clients, their staff, Board of Directors, and Finance Committees on a regular basis.

Responsibilities

Serve as the outsourced Controller/CFO for multiple non-profit clients. Your responsibilities would include:

• Transforming nonprofit client financial departments to help them meet their mission!
• Financial reporting for management and Board decision making and presentations
• Recommending and implementing improvements to accounting, operations, internal controls, and compliance policies and procedures, supporting client strategy and best practices
• Transactional activities including accounts payable, accounts receivable (revenue recognition and billing), and payroll, general accounting, reconciliations, month-end close, and maintaining workpapers
• Analysis and data visualization, budgeting and forecasting
• Grant management, allocations, and funder reporting
• Prepare for and manage annual audit
• Client and staff training opportunities

Qualifications

• Passionate about working in or supporting non-profit organizations
• Bachelor’s Degree required, preferably in Accounting or Finance
• 5-7plusyears accounting experience
• Experience working in a remote environment preferred
• Ability to manage and lead multiple clients, work independently, and be responsive on a timely basis
• Demonstrated strong Microsoft Excel skills
• Experience with multiple GL packages, especially QuickBooks, and electronic bill pay systems
• Non-profit accounting, public accounting experience, and/or consulting experience is a plus but not required
• CPA certification is a plus
• Bilingual-English/Spanish a plus

Starting annual base salary is $100,000 to $125,000 based on a 35-hour work week for this non-exempt position. Total compensation may increase with overtime pay and eligibility for various bonuses. A professional development reimbursement and technology stipend are also provided on an annual basis. Please note that the base salary offered may vary depending on relevant factors as determined by Your Part-Time Controller, LLC, which may include, but is not limited to, education, skill, experience, licensure and certifications, internal salary ranges, geographical location, and other business needs.
