Job summary

Good Shepherd Health Care System in Hermiston, Oregon, seeks a seasoned Controller to oversee accounting, cost accounting, and financial reporting. You will coordinate audits, prepare budgets, and ensure timely tax filings for the hospital and related foundations, while guiding staff and maintaining policy compliance.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in business administration with specialization in finance and/or Accounting.
• MBA preferred.
• 5 years’ experience as Controller or Assistant Controller in larger hospital.
• CPA preferred.

Responsibilities

• Provide audit schedules and balance sheet reconciliations to independent auditors in a timely fashion.
• Prepares federal and state tax returns for Good Shepherd Hospital Corporation, Good Shepherd Medical Foundation, and Good Shepherd Community Health Foundation.
• Demonstrates leadership and incorporates guest relation standards into daily interdepartmental activities.
• Provides analysis of income, expenditures and capital asset values with comparisons to previous periods.
• Make recommendations concerning methods of reducing operating costs and increasing revenue.
• Plans, directs, supervises and coordinates functions and activities in accounting.
• Evaluates procedures to improve methods of reducing costs of accounting operations and improve workflow.
• Prepares annual operating and capital budgets.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.

Wage Compensation - Min: $160,000.00 Max: $ 248,000.00 Manages the daily operations in accounting, accounts payable, and financial reporting. Performs various cost accounting functions, analyzes cost records, prepares budgets and completes Foundation, Medical Service Corporation, and Hospital financial statements. Coordinates the annual financial audit with independent auditors. Directs planning and preparation of annual operating and capital budgets. Ensure that the corporate tax returns are prepared for mailing by due dates. Completes all Medicare and Medicaid schedules for their cost reports. Complete the necessary tax reports that meet Federal & State reporting regulations. Provide the necessary training and education for accounting staff necessary to maintain skills and compliance with hospital and accounting policy procedures and standards.

Physical Requirements:

Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer. Occasional walking, standing, bending, or lifting light office items (up to 25 pounds). Visual acuity to view computer screens and read detailed financial documents. Ability to communicate effectively in person, by phone, and electronically. May be required to move throughout the healthcare facility, including administrative and clinical areas.

Working Conditions:

This position operates in a professional office setting within a healthcare facility. The role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, and filing cabinets. The office environment is climate-controlled, well-lit, and ergonomically designed for extended computer work. While this role is primarily office-based and does not involve direct patient care, the employee may occasionally be present in clinical areas or interact with staff working in clinical environments.
