Job summary

Pegasus Staffing Partners is recruiting on behalf of a privately held, growing residential construction and homebuilding company in the Fort Worth area. They seek an experienced Controller to own the accounting and finance function and serve as a key partner to operations and ownership.

This hands-on leader will translate project activity into clear, actionable financial insight, manage job costing and subcontractor accounting, and drive improvements in reporting, internal controls, and staff

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
  • 7+ years of progressive accounting experience with significant leadership responsibility in homebuilding, residential construction, land development, or a closely related industry.
  • Deep expertise in job costing, project accounting, subcontractor management, and WIP reporting in a builder setting.
  • Proven experience managing month‑end close, financial reporting, budgeting, and forecasting.
  • Hands‑on experience with construction‑focused accounting workflows and strong proficiency with QuickBooks; exposure to construction accounting/ERP systems is a plus.
  • CPA credential preferred but not required.
  • Track record of being a trusted advisor to executive leadership and operations, with the ability to challenge assumptions and support strategic decisions with data.

Responsibilities

  • Lead all core accounting activities, including general ledger management, month‑end close, financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, and cash management.
  • Own project accounting: job costing, WIP schedules, cost tracking, margin analysis, and profitability reporting at the project and portfolio level.
  • Oversee subcontractor accounting, including compliance tracking, insurance documentation, payment processing, and contract/PO administration.
  • Develop and maintain accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and management reports.
  • Partner closely with construction operations and ownership to monitor project performance, review budgets vs. actuals, and provide forward‑looking financial guidance.
  • Manage cash flow forecasting, working capital planning, and funding needs to support an active pipeline of residential builds and lots.
  • Ensure adherence to GAAP and company financial policies while tailoring processes to the realities of a construction environment.
  • Coordinate annual reviews/audits, tax preparation, and interactions with outside accounting and tax advisors.
  • Strengthen internal controls, refine accounting workflows, and improve reporting structure and transparency.
  • Lead, mentor, and develop accounting staff, fostering a culture of accountability, accuracy, and continuous process improvement.
