Job summary

LHH Recruitment Solutions is partnering with a nonprofit health and human services organization in Riviera Beach, FL to recruit an experienced Controller who will lead the accounting team and oversee financial reporting, grant accounting, audits, and internal controls.

The role reports to the VP of Finance, supervises accounting staff, and focuses on operational improvements with long-term career growth potential.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
• 7+ years of progressive accounting experience; supervisory preferred.
• Strong knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting; month-end close expertise.
• Experience with financial statement audits.
• Grant accounting and restricted funds experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Oversee day-to-day accounting operations (GL, AP, reconciliations).
• Manage month-end and year-end closes with 15-day target.
• Prepare financial statements per GAAP (monthly, quarterly, annually).
• Oversee grant accounting and restricted funds allocations.
• Coordinate annual audits and federal/state single audits.
• Maintain accounting policies and internal controls.
• Oversee fixed assets, leases, debt, accruals, restricted net assets.
• Support budgeting and budget-to-actual analysis.
• Supervise and develop accounting staff.
• Identify opportunities to improve processes and efficiency.

Salary: $85,000–$115,000 annually, with potential flexibility based on experience

LHH Recruitment Solutions is partnering with an established $17 million nonprofit health and human services organization in Riviera Beach, FL, seeking an experienced Controller to join its accounting leadership team.

This newly created position will report directly to the VP of Finance, oversee accounting staff, and play a critical role in financial reporting, grant accounting, audits, compliance, and operational improvements. This opportunity also offers meaningful long-term career advancement potential.

Key Responsibilities

• Oversee day-to-day accounting operations, including general ledger, accounts payable, and reconciliations.
• Manage month-end and year-end close processes, with a target of completing monthly close within 15 calendar days.
• Prepare and review monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with GAAP.
• Oversee grant accounting, restricted contributions, cost allocations, and program expenditures.
• Coordinate annual financial statement audits and applicable Federal and Florida State Single Audits.
• Maintain accounting policies, procedures, and effective internal controls.
• Oversee fixed assets, leases, debt schedules, accruals, and restricted net asset releases.
• Support annual budgeting, financial analysis, and budget-to-actual reporting.
• Supervise, train, and develop accounting personnel.
• Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes and operational efficiency.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
• Ideally 7+ years of progressive accounting experience, with supervisory experience. Strong candidates with approximately 5 years of relevant experience may also be considered.
• Strong knowledge of GAAP, financial reporting, balance sheet reconciliations, and month-end close.
• Experience managing financial statement audits.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel.Prior nonprofit accounting and grant accounting experience strongly preferred.
• Experience with restricted funds, federal grant compliance, and single audits highly desirable.
• CPA certification preferred, not required.
• MIP Fund Accounting software experience preferred, not required.
• Strong communication, organization, and leadership skills.
• Base salary: $85,000–$115,000, with potential flexibility for exceptionally qualified candidates, subject to approval.
