Job summary

Smart Resources Group in Draper, UT is seeking a hands-on Controller to lead our accounting function, manage financial reporting, protect profitability, and support continued growth.

The role leads monthly close, job costing, cash management, payroll, and receivables, while strengthening internal controls and partnering with operations to improve margins.

Qualified candidates will hold a Bachelor’s in Accounting or Finance, 7+ years of experience, and strong knowledge of GAAP.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance
• 7+ years accounting experience with leadership responsibilities
• Experience with construction, landscaping, contracting or project-based accounting
• Strong knowledge of job costing, WIP schedules, and GAAP financial reporting
• Experience with payroll, commissions, and cash management
• Advanced Excel skills and proficiency with QuickBooks Online
• CPA, CMA, or similar certification preferred
• Experience in residential construction, landscaping, roofing, solar, turf, or related industries
• Multi-location or multi-market accounting experience

Responsibilities

• Lead monthly financial close and prepare accurate GAAP financial statements
• Manage job costing, WIP reporting, budgeting, and profitability analysis
• Oversee cash flow, billing, collections, accounts payable, and accounts receivable
• Ensure payroll, installer pay, and sales commissions are processed accurately and on time
• Maintain internal controls and accounting procedures to safeguard company assets
• Partner with operations and sales teams to improve margins and financial performance
• Coordinate tax filings, 1099 reporting, and compliance activities
• Lead and develop the accounting team while improving processes and system efficiency

Compensation & Benefits

• Starting salary of $120,000 - 150,000+ based on experience
