The Opportunity

The firm is seeking a highly capable and hands-on Controller to lead and strengthen the Firm’s accounting, portfolio accounting, and operational finance functions. This is a high-impact role with meaningful exposure to fund operations, accounting, prime brokerage relationships, investor reporting, tax coordination, and management-company finance.

The successful candidate will have significant responsibility and visibility within a growing investment firm, along with a clear path toward broader finance leadership and, potentially, a CFO role.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform shadow accounting for the funds and SMA, including validating monthly NAV calculations, P&L, fees, expenses, and allocations.
  • Work closely with fund administrators and prime brokers to ensure accurate and timely transaction processing.
  • Monitor portfolio positions, trade allocations, and operational control breaks; investigate and escalation discrepancies promptly.
  • Provide backup support to the Operations team with daily trade, cash, and position reconciliations across prime brokers, custodians, administrators, and internal systems.
  • Maintain the management company’s general ledger, balance sheet, and income statement in QuickBooks.
  • Support the month-end close process, including accruals, expense allocations, reconciliations, and management reporting.
  • Coordinate with the Firm’s tax advisors on K-1s, tax reporting, partner matters, and other tax-related requirements.
  • Prepare cash forecasts and oversee the reconciliation and recording of cash activity.
  • Review, approve, process, and record accounts payable, vendor invoices, and other Firm expenses.
  • Prepare periodic investor reporting and support investor-relations and marketing initiatives, including pitchbooks, due diligence materials, and client presentations.
  • Help improve the Firm’s accounting, reporting, and operational processes as the business grows.
  • Lead or support special projects involving finance, operations, technology, tax, vendors, and Firm infrastructure.
Qualifications
  • CPA strongly preferred.
  • At least seven years of relevant experience in accounting, fund administration, asset management, or a related financial-services environment.
  • Experience with hedge funds, private funds, SMAs, multi-prime-broker platforms, or investment managers preferred.
  • Advanced Excel skills and strong proficiency in Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, and QuickBooks.
  • Experience with Enfusion is a plus.
  • Strong understanding of reconciliations, NAV processes, financial statements, cash management, and operational controls.
  • Excellent organizational, analytical, and communication skills.
  • Highly detail-oriented, resourceful, and capable of managing multiple priorities independently.
  • Demonstrated ownership, sound judgment, and a willingness to work across functions.
  • Ability to handle confidential and sensitive information with discretion and professionalism.
