Job summary

Frederick Fox LLC in Oregon is seeking an experienced Controller to oversee the full accounting cycle, financial operations, administrative functions, and HR responsibilities. This hands-on leader will partner with executives, establish scalable processes, and ensure accurate project costing across ~25 concurrent projects, WIP, AP/AR, payroll, and bonding support.

Qualifications

Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced and hands‑on Controller to oversee the company’s accounting, financial operations, administrative functions, and HR responsibilities. This is a highly visible leadership role for someone who can take ownership of the full accounting cycle, manage multiple projects simultaneously, and provide financial insight to support business growth.

The ideal candidate will be a strong business partner who can work independently, build effective relationships across the organization, communicate clearly, and establish processes and procedures that improve operational efficiency.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage the General Ledger (GL) and project costing for approximately 25 concurrent projects.
• Oversee Work in Progress (WIP) accounting and reporting.
• Prepare financial statements and provide regular project financial updates to leadership.
• Conduct project financial analysis, budget tracking, and financial forecasting.
• Partner with the external CPA firm on tax-related matters and reporting.
• Oversee Accounts Payable (AP) and Accounts Receivable (AR) functions and manage a team of three.
• Manage payroll for a small internal team, as well as union payments for approximately 50 additional indirect staff.
• Monitor project budgets, costs, profitability, and financial performance.
• Oversee liens and releases and support bonding activities, with the opportunity to learn and develop expertise in this area.
• Own administrative and HR‑related responsibilities for the organization.
• Develop, implement, and maintain accounting processes, policies, and procedures.
• Communicate financial and operational processes clearly across the organization.
• Provide leadership, guidance, and support to accounting and administrative team members.
• Serve as a trusted business partner to leadership and project teams.
• Take ownership of financial and operational issues and independently identify solutions.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
• Hands‑on experience managing the full accounting cycle and taking ownership of accounting operations.
• Strong General Ledger experience, preferably with job costing.
• Experience managing multiple projects and maintaining accurate project‑level financial information.
• Demonstrated people leadership and team management experience.
• Strong communication, organization, analytical, and problem‑solving skills.
• Ability to work independently, make informed decisions, and take ownership of responsibilities.
• Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build productive relationships across different teams and levels of an organization.
• Ability to communicate processes, procedures, financial information, and expectations clearly and tactfully.

Preferred Qualifications

• Previous experience in the construction industry.
• Experience with Viewpoint Software or similar construction accounting/job‑costing platforms.
• Experience with WIP, project costing, construction financial reporting, liens, releases, bonding, and union payments.
• Previous experience as an Accounting Manager ready to transition into a Controller‑level role is welcome.
• Extensive leadership experience within accounting or financial operations is also valued.
