Job summary

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of Controller-level experience within construction is strongly preferred.
  • Strong understanding of construction accounting and job costing.
  • Experience with WIP, AIA billing, project cost reporting, and contract billing.
  • Strong GAAP knowledge and full-cycle accounting experience.
  • Previous experience managing and developing accounting staff.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee all accounting and financial activities for the division.
  • Lead and develop a team of 3–4 accounting professionals.
  • Oversee monthly financial statements and WIP reporting.
  • Review monthly project cost reports with Project Managers and identify potential cost issues.
  • Oversee job costing, billing, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and payroll.
  • Manage AIA billing and ensure billings are submitted accurately and on time.
  • Assist with project closeout and ensure all billings are complete and accurate.
  • Prepare budgets, forecasts, and financial reporting packages.
  • Analyze financial performance and communicate key metrics to senior leadership.
  • Develop and maintain effective financial controls and accounting procedures.
  • Support cash flow management and ensure compliance with contract requirements.
  • Coordinate subcontractor documentation, including lien releases, insurance certificates, and executed subcontract agreements.
  • Partner with senior management and operations on financial and strategic initiatives.

Job description

A growing utility construction company is seeking an experienced Division Controller to oversee the financial and accounting operations of a division. This is a newly created position offering the opportunity to take ownership of accounting operations and partner closely with senior leadership in a growing organization.

The ideal candidate will have construction accounting experience and a strong understanding of job costing, WIP, AIA billing, financial reporting, and GAAP accounting. This role is well suited for a hands-on accounting leader who enjoys working closely with project and operational teams and wants to have a direct impact on the business.
