Job summary

Phaxis seeks a Controller in Chicago to oversee accounting, financial reporting, and control functions for its U.S. investment platform.

You will work with senior finance leadership, drive GAAP reporting, and coordinate audits to ensure robust internal controls as the private markets platform grows.

Qualifications

• Private markets experience across private equity, private credit, secondaries, or alternatives.
• 1940 Act experience with registered fund accounting and reporting.
• Strong GAAP, financial reporting, and technical accounting background.

Responsibilities

• Lead financial reporting, close, and accounting oversight across private market investment structures.
• Oversee fund and management company accounting, including consolidations and financial statement preparation.
• Manage reporting and compliance for 1940 Act registered investment vehicles.
• Partner with fund administration, tax, legal, compliance, investment, and operations teams.
• Coordinate external audits and maintain a strong internal control environment.
• Support new fund launches and growth of the platform.

This individual will work closely with senior finance leadership and play a key role in supporting a complex and growing private markets business.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead financial reporting, close, and accounting oversight across private market investment structures.
• Oversee fund and management company accounting, including consolidations and financial statement preparation.
• Manage reporting and compliance requirements for 1940 Act registered investment vehicles.
• Partner with fund administration, tax, legal, compliance, investment, and operations teams.
• Coordinate external audits and maintain a strong internal control environment.
• Support new fund launches, investment structures, and continued growth of the platform.

Qualifications

• Private markets experience required, ideally across private equity, private credit, secondaries, or alternative investments.
• 1940 Act experience required, with strong knowledge of registered fund accounting and reporting.
• Strong GAAP, financial reporting, and technical accounting background.
• CPA strongly preferred.
• Prior Controller, Assistant Controller, or senior fund accounting leadership experience.
