Job summary

Piston Automotive in Auburn Hills, MI, is seeking a Controller to direct financial activities by planning, coordinating, and consolidating accounting operations. This role prepares internal financial statements and reports for management to drive informed decision making.

You will supervise budgets and forecasts, review month-end close, coordinate with external auditors, and mentor accounting staff to sustain accurate, compliant financial results in a manufacturing setting.

Qualifications

• 3 years of experience as a Controller or 5 years in a public accounting firm (Big 4 or Middle Market)
• 5 years of experience interpreting financial reports and legal documents
• 3 years of experience presenting information to various levels of management
• 5 years of experience with probability, statistics, geometry and trigonometry
• 8 years of experience applying fractions, percentages, ratios and proportions

Responsibilities

• Preparation of quarterly reforecast incorporating historical results and future assumptions.
• Assessing current accounting operations, offering recommendations for improvement and implementing new processes.
• Preparation of work papers supporting the monthly close process and month end balances.
• Review and posts receipts and payments to ledgers, spreadsheets, records, and databases.
• Audits invoices against purchase orders, researches discrepancies, and approves for payment.
• Provides advance warning of variances to budget/forecast.
• Evaluating accounting and internal control systems.
• Directs preparation of budgets and documentation for justification.
• Provides counsel to peer management to optimize operational results.
• Coordinates activities of external auditors.
• Prepares reports required by regulatory agencies.
• Acts as close confidant to Plant Manager.
• Hiring, training and retaining competent accounting staff.

The Controller directs financial activities for the organization by planning, directing and coordinating all accounting operational functions. Manages the accumulation and consolidation of all financial data necessary for an accurate accounting of business results. Qualifications

• Three (3) years of experience as a Controller, or Five (5) years of experience in a public accounting firm (Big 4 or Middle Market)
• Bachelor's degree (B. A.) in Accounting, Finance or a related field.
• Five (5) years of experience interpreting financial reports, and legal documents.
• A minimum of three (3) years of experience presenting information to various levels of management (ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups, and/or executive teams.)
• Five years of experience working with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry.
• Eight years of experience applying concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

Preferred Skills/Qualifications

• Experience as an audit manager / senior associate at a CPA firm (Big 4 or Middle Market) strongly preferred
• Experience in a manufacturing environment or with manufacturing clients preferred
• Experience with inventory management (year end physical counts or recurring cycle counts) preferred
• CPA preferred
