Job summary

American Training in Andover, MA, is seeking a Controller to lead all finance operations, drive budgeting and financial planning, and ensure strict GAAP compliance within a mission-driven environment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting; CPA or advanced degree preferred.
• Progressive accounting leadership experience in nonprofit organizations.
• GAAP, nonprofit accounting, budgeting, audits, internal controls, and financial reporting knowledge.
• Experience with accounting systems; advanced Excel skills; process improvement initiatives.
• Knowledge of MA EOHHS contracts, UFR reporting, and federal grant compliance.
• Collaborative leadership with strong communication and people development.

Responsibilities

• Lead all accounting and finance operations including financial reporting, budgeting, cash management, accounts payable and receivable, contract and grant accounting, purchasing, and internal controls.
• Partner with executive leadership to develop budgets, analyze performance, improve systems, provide financial insights.
• Ensure GAAP compliance, support audits, oversee funding and billing requirements, strengthen internal controls.
• Mentor and direct daily work of a diverse team; ensure timely monthly close and uphold WOW culture.

What You'll Do

• Lead all accounting and finance operations, including financial reporting, budgeting, cash management, accounts payable and receivable, contract and grant accounting, purchasing, and internal controls.
• Partner with executive leadership to develop budgets, analyze financial performance, improve systems and processes, and provide meaningful financial insights that support organizational decision-making.
• Ensure compliance and financial integrity by maintaining GAAP standards, supporting successful audits, overseeing funding and billing requirements, and strengthening internal controls.
• Mentors and directs the daily work of a diverse team, ensuring all work is processed efficiently and meets internal monthly close schedules while championing our WOW! Magic Culture.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting (CPA or advanced degree preferred).
• Progressive accounting leadership experience in a nonprofit organization.
• Strong knowledge of GAAP, nonprofit accounting, budgeting, audits, internal controls, and financial reporting.
• Experience with accounting and financial systems, advanced Excel skills, and process improvement initiatives.
