Job summary

Roadrunner Food Bank of New Mexico is seeking a seasoned Controller to oversee daily financial operations, improve accuracy of reporting, and drive budgeting and compliance across the organization.

The role reports to the CFO, acting as second-in-command, guiding staff and ensuring GAAP adherence while coordinating audits and regulatory filings. Non-profit experience is highly valued.

Qualifications

  • BS in Accounting required.
  • 5 years’ experience as a Controller or senior-level accounting role.
  • Non-profit experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee day-to-day financial operations and reporting.
  • Manage budgeting, accounting records, and compliance with GAAP/IRS.
  • Supervise finance team and provide strategic insights to leadership.
  • Coordinate audits and ensure timely Form 990 work.
  • Support internal management reporting and dashboards.

About Roadrunner Food Bank of New Mexico

Roadrunner® Food Bank of New Mexico, a Feeding America member, is the largest non-profit dedicated to solving food insecurity in New Mexico. As a food distribution hub, we provide food to hundreds of affiliated member partners around the state including food pantries, soup kitchens, shelters and regional food banks. We also distribute food through specialized programs helping children, families and seniors at schools, low-income senior housing sites, senior centers and with and through health care partnerships. Every week, tens of thousands of hungry children, seniors and families are reached through this statewide hunger relief network. We are working together with our partners, volunteers and contributors to end food insecurity and hunger in New Mexico.

You can expect us to offer the best salary up front with no room for negotiation. Once hired, employees have the opportunity to progress through salary ranges via regular merit increases and step promotions. We pay 85% of the medical, dental, and vision insurance premiums for employees, and 75% for their dependents, including domestic partners. The majority of our employees pay less than $60 per check for medical insurance. Position Overview

The Controller isa senior-level accounting and finance professional responsible for overseeing Roadrunner Food Bank of New Mexico’s day-to-day financial operations, including financial reporting, accounting records, budgeting, and compliance with regulations. This position ensures accuracy in financial statements, manages finance team staff, and provides strategic financial insights to leadership, acting as the second-in-command to the CFO.

  • Reviews G/L expenses quarterly for accuracy
  • Ensures coding isaccurate
  • Ensures B/S and Stats report reflect correct amounts
  • Supports Dashboard production
  • Supports internal management reporting
  • Facilitates review processes with Senior Accountant
  • Maintains segregation of duties
  • Ensurescredit cards, A/P,financial policies and procedures, GAAP and IRS regulationsare followed
  • Ensures State and Federal regulations are followed
  • Follows up on material budget variances
  • Ensures audit schedules are compiled ina timelymanner. Completion byNovember.
  • Manages follow-up queries and sample selectionprocess.
  • Ensures Form 990 schedules arefiledtimely. Completion by December.
  • Completes follow-up audit work to include AJE and CAJE communication and entry
  • Facilitates state and city audits
  • Supervises food invoicing
  • Assistswith inventory management
  • Analyzes budget with the CFO
  • Assists with staff training, as needed

  • Performs all other relevant duties as assigned
