Job summary

Comfort Systems USA Ohio is seeking an experienced Building Automation Service Technician to join our Cincinnati Building Automation & Controls team. This field-based role focuses on BAS, DDC, and HVAC controls with startup, commissioning, maintenance, and optimization to improve building comfort, reliability, efficiency, and overall system performance.

You will troubleshoot, program, and diagnose controllers, sensors, actuators, and networks, read schematics, and deliver clear technical reports

Qualifications

  • Experience with Building Automation Systems, DDC, HVAC controls, or commercial building control systems.
  • Strong ability to read electrical schematics, control diagrams, wiring diagrams and mechanical drawings.
  • Excellent troubleshooting, diagnostic and problem-solving skills.

Responsibilities

  • Troubleshoot and service BAS, DDC, and HVAC control systems.
  • Perform system startup, commissioning, functional testing, and point-to-point checkout.
  • Diagnose issues with controllers, sensors, actuators, control panels, wiring, and networks.
  • Perform preventative maintenance and system optimization.
  • Modify programming, schedules, setpoints, graphics, alarms, trends, and control sequences as needed.
  • Troubleshoot controls for air handlers, rooftops, VAVs, chillers, boilers, pumps, VFDs and related equipment.
  • Work with BAS protocols and networks (BACnet, Modbus, BACnet/IP, MS/TP).
  • Prepare service reports, work orders, and system documentation.

Job description

This is a field-based position supporting commercial and industrial customers throughout the Cincinnati metropolitan area.

About the Role

Comfort Systems USA Ohio is looking for an experienced Building Automation Service Technician to join our Cincinnati Building Automation & Controls team.

This is a great opportunity for someone with experience in Building Automation Systems (BAS), Direct Digital Controls (DDC), HVAC controls, or commercial building controls who enjoys troubleshooting, working independently in the field, and solving technical problems for customers.

You'll support commercial and industrial facilities by performing service, troubleshooting, startup, commissioning, preventative maintenance, and system optimization to help improve building comfort, reliability, efficiency, and overall system performance.

What You'll Do
  • Troubleshoot and service BAS, DDC, and HVAC control systems
  • Perform system startup, commissioning, functional testing, and point-to-point checkout
  • Diagnose issues with controllers, sensors, actuators, control panels, low-voltage wiring, and communication networks
  • Perform preventative maintenance and system optimization
  • Modify programming, schedules, setpoints, graphics, alarms, trends, and control sequences as needed
  • Troubleshoot controls associated with air handlers, rooftop units, VAV systems, chillers, boilers, pumps, VFDs, and other commercial HVAC equipment
  • Work with BAS communication protocols and networks, including BACnet, Modbus, BACnet/IP, and MS/TP
  • Respond to customer service calls and complete repairs or system adjustments
  • Read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, control drawings, mechanical drawings, and technical documentation
  • Maintain accurate service reports, work orders, and system documentation
  • Communicate technical findings and recommended solutions clearly and professionally with customers
What We're Looking For
  • Experience with Building Automation Systems, DDC, HVAC controls, or commercial building control systems
  • Strong understanding of electrical, mechanical, HVAC, and control system operation
  • Strong troubleshooting, diagnostic, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to read electrical schematics, control diagrams, wiring diagrams, and mechanical drawings
  • Ability to work independently in the field and manage multiple service priorities
  • Strong customer service and communication skills
  • Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record
Preferred Experience
  • Schneider Electric, Siemens, Johnson Controls, Honeywell, Automated Logic, Alerton, Distech, Delta Controls, or similar BAS platforms
  • BACnet, Modbus, BACnet MS/TP, BACnet/IP, TCP/IP networking, and IP addressing
  • BAS programming, graphics, alarms, trends, schedules, point mapping, or sequence verification
  • Controller replacement, system upgrades, retrofit projects, or network troubleshooting
  • Commercial HVAC service, commissioning, systems integration, or energy management systems
  • Trade school, vocational, military technical, HVAC, electrical, or controls training

Compensation & Schedule

Position Type: Full-Time

Pay Range: $30.00–$40.00 per hour, based on qualifications and experience
