Job summary

Qualifications

  • Hands-on experience designing and testing control systems.
  • Practical experience with the open-source PX4 platform, version control, and custom control allocation for multi-actuator systems.
  • Experience with Matlab UAV toolbox, autocode, and hardware deployment.
  • Experience prototyping and integrating complex electromechanical systems.
  • Ability to integrate and interpret data from navigation sensors.

Responsibilities

  • Designing and testing control systems for complex multi-actuator configurations.
  • Modifying custom control allocation (mixers) on the open-source PX4 platform and handling version control.
  • Using Matlab UAV toolbox, autocode, and hardware deployment.
  • Prototyping and physically integrating electromechanical systems (multiple motors/EDFs, thrust-vectoring servos, aerodynamic control surfaces).
  • Integrating and interpreting data from various navigation sensors.
  • Conducting systematic testing and troubleshooting on integrated ground test beds.
  • Documenting test bed operations, hardware integration, and experimental outcomes, including photography and videography.

Position Summary

HX5 is seeking an Electrical Engineer to provide control systems engineering support for NASA GRC’s Transformational Tools and Technologies’ Alternative Propulsion Focus Area, which develops next‑generation hybrid propulsion technologies. The role will rapidly conduct analyses, designs, assemblies, integrations, ground test and flight test cycles to evaluate novel solutions, and create a rapid, novel system design methodology for hybrid propulsion by leveraging open‑source software and AI tools.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Designing and testing control systems for complex multi‑actuator configurations.

Experience and Education
  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering with 2 to 5 years of experience.
  • Master’s degree with 0 to 2 years of experience.
Position Requirements
  • Proof of U.S. citizenship or US Permanent Residency.
  • Ability to complete a U.S. government background investigation.
