Job summary

HX5, LLC is seeking a Power Electronics Engineer to support NASA Glenn Research Center in Brook Park, Ohio. The role focuses on power electronics, bi-directional DC/DC converters, and battery pack management, with emphasis on rapid analysis, design, and testing cycles.

The candidate should be enrolled in an ABET-accredited electrical engineering program and able to obtain a U.S. government background investigation. U.S. citizenship or permanent residency is required for this position.

Power Electronics Engineer

Electrical Engineer I

NASA Glenn Research Center

Brook Park, Ohio

HX5 is currently seeking an individual for our Electrical Engineering department to provide power electronics engineering support to NASA’s Glenn Research Center (GRC) Transformational Tools and Technologies' Alternative Propulsion Focus Area which develops next-generation hybrid propulsion technologies by innovating solutions for key next-generation hybrid electric propulsion sub-systems. The development strategy includes rapidly conducting analyses, designs, assemblies, integrations, ground test and flight test cycles to evaluate the potential of novel solutions. A key goal of this work is to create a rapid, novel system design methodology for next-generation hybrid propulsion through identifying and evaluating open-source software packages and artificial intelligence packages that have the potential to accelerate design cycles from idea to hardware flight implementation.


Required Skills


  • Understanding of power electronics and bi-directional DC/DC converters.

  • Understanding of lithium chemistry battery packs, specifically the requirements of charge and discharge cycles.

  • The ability to use ECAD tools (KiCAD) for circuit design and PCB layout.


Other Desired Skills


  • Strong problem-solving, troubleshooting, and systematic testing skills required to safely conduct experimental demonstrations on bi-directional DC/DC converter test beds.

  • Understanding of AI tools to add in the generation of technical designs.

  • Familiar with DC power buses, voltage regulation, and power flow management.

  • Familiar with the use of AI models/tool to conduct research and aid in technical designs.


Experience


  • Must be enrolled in an electrical engineering program at and ABET accredited institution.

  • Proof of U.S. Citizenship or US Permanent Residency is a requirement for this position.

  • Must be able to complete a U.S. government background investigation.
