Job summary

The Fulton Companies in Pulaski, NY is seeking a Control Systems Developer to design, test, and maintain sophisticated control systems for commercial equipment. You will work across hardware, software, and GUI layers to deliver reliable, safe and efficient operation that aligns with our engineering standards.

Qualifications

  • Troubleshoot controls hardware and software.
  • Formal training or equivalent experience in automation/controls.
  • 3+ years PLC ladder logic programming; experience in procedural programming (C) and object‑oriented programming (C++/C#).

Responsibilities

  • Designs, develops, and improves control systems including hardware, software and GUIs.
  • Performs hardware qualification and validation to ensure quality and UX alignment.
  • Troubleshoots and resolves complex system issues using structured root cause analysis.
  • Provides training and support to internal teams and customers.
  • Willing to travel to support development, training, testing and data collection.

Requirements
OVERALL RESPONSIBILITY:

The Control Systems Developer develops, tests, and maintains complex control systems that govern the operation of commercial equipment. This role requires a proficiency in software development and an aptitude for electronics and hands‑on hardware testing. They must value both function and form, and collaborate with cross‑functional teams to deliver solutions that meet or exceed targets for reliability, safety, features, cost and performance in a manner that is consistent with the company values and operating philosophy.

ACCOUNTABILITIES:
  • 1) Controls Development – Designs, develops, and continuously improves control systems, inclusive of hardware, software and graphical user interfaces. Translates functional requirements into reliable, safe, and efficient equipment operation with a focus on an exceptional user experience.
  • 2) Quality Assurance Testing – Performs hardware qualification and systematic validation to ensure control systems meet quality standards and aligns with user experience goals, ensuring the delivery of a high‑quality product to customers.
  • 3) Issue Resolution – Troubleshoots, replicates and resolves complex system issues using structured root cause analysis to restore intended functionality and prevent future recurrence.
  • 4) Technical Resource – Provides training and support to internal teams and customers. Serves as a subject matter expert delivering timely and effective assistance in a professional and customer focused manner.
  • 5) Travel – Willing to travel to support development, training, troubleshooting, testing and data collection activities.
  • 6) Documentation – Creates and maintains clear, accurate technical documentation including specifications, changes, and user‑facing materials; communicates progress and issues effectively to stakeholders.
QUALIFICATIONS (Education, Certifications and Required Experience):
  • 1) Experience troubleshooting controls hardware and software.
  • 2) Formal Training Program or Associate’s degree in Industrial Automation, Computer Science, Mechatronics, Software Engineering or related field, or equivalent industry experience.
  • 3) Preferred: 3+ years of experience in Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) ladder logic programming, with experience in procedural programming (e.g., C) and object‑oriented programming (e.g., C++ or C#).

  • 4) Thoroughness – Ensuring work and information is complete and accurate; carefully preparing for meetings, courses and presentations, following up to ensure the agreements and commitments have been fulfilled.
  • 5) Stress Management – The ability to keep functioning effectively when under pressure or with unpredictable surges in workload; and maintain self‑control in the face of hostility or provocation.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • 1) Repetitive Motion – Substantial movement/motion of the wrists, hands and fingers.
  • 2) Sitting – Employee needs to remain seated for extended periods of time.
  • 3) Vision – Close visual acuity to perform an activity such as analyzing data, viewing a computer terminal, use of tools, etc.
  • 4) Travel – Work requires travel by walking on foot, car or airplane and may include extended periods of walking or sitting.

This position is on site in Pulaski, NY and follows a hybrid schedule, with minimum 3 days on-site and up to 2 days remote per week.
